Buy bulk spices and you can make 5-plus batches for under $1.00!! Increasing black pepper and adding optional ingredients will increase heat. Using mild or regular chili powder and omitting optional ingredients will reduce heat. To keep salt content low make sure chili powder does not contain salt.

5 tsps paprika
1 1/4 tsps garlic powder
1 1/4 tsps cumin ground
1 1/4 tsps onion powder
1 tsp chili powder
1 tsp oregano leaves
1 1/2 tsps sea salt from sea salt grinder
1 1/2 tsps corn starch
1 pound lean ground beef
3/4 cup water
12 taco shells

Steps:

  • Mix spices, herbs, salt and corn starch in small bowl until well blended. Set seasoning blend aside.
  • Brown meat in large skillet on medium-high heat. Drain fat.
  • Stir in seasoning blend and water.
  • Bring to boil. Reduce heat and simmer 5 minutes or until slightly thickened, stirring occasionally. Spoon into warm taco shells. Serve with desired toppings, such as shredded lettuce, chopped tomatoes, shredded cheese, salsa and sour cream.
  • Test Kitchen Tips:•For a little heat, try adding 1/4 teaspoon McCormick® Crushed Red Pepper to your seasoning blend. •To make a big batch of homemade taco seasoning to have on hand, simply double, triple, or even quadruple the seasoning blend part of the recipe.
