THE ORIGINAL MAI TAI

1 1/2 ounces Myers's Plantation Rum
1 ounce Cuban Rum
3/4 ounce fresh lime juice
1 ounce fresh grapefruit juice
1/4 Falernum*
1/2 ounce Cointreau
2 dashes Angostura bitters
1 dash Pernod
1 cup cracked ice
Slice squeezed lime, for garnish
Pineapple spear, for garnish
Mint sprig, for garnish
*Falernum is a lime/ginger based syrup and can be found in some large liquor stores.

Steps:

  • Pour all the liquids into a cocktail shaker. Fill it with ice and shake for about 30 seconds. Pour it all into a 16-ounce double old-fashioned glass. Garnish with lime slice, pineapple, and mint sprig.

WATERMELON MAI TAI



Watermelon Mai Tai image

1/2 cup cubed watermelon, seedless or seeds removed
3 tablespoons light rum
2 tablespoons St. Germaine liqueur
1 lime, juiced (about 1 tablespoon), plus 1 wedge for garnish
1 tablespoon superfine sugar
Ice, for serving

Steps:

  • Place the watermelon, rum, St. Germaine liqueur, lime juice and superfine sugar in the pitcher of a blender and blend on high until well blended. Pour into a double old-fashioned glass filled with ice. Garnish with a lime wedge and enjoy.

The Mai Tai originated in California and was introduced to Hawaii in the 1940s, where orange and pineapple juices were added to create the Royal Hawaiian Mai Tai. This is Ree's favorite version of the famous drink.

6 ounces light rum
3 ounces dark rum
2 ounces lime juice
2 ounces orange liqueur
2 ounces almond syrup (like for coffee)
4 ounces orange juice
5 ounces pineapple juice
1/4 cup maraschino cherry juice, plus a few cherries for garnish
4 small wedges fresh pineapple, for garnish
Fresh mint leaves, for garnish

Steps:

  • Combine the rums, lime juice, orange liqueur, almond syrup, orange juice and pineapple juice in a mason jar and secure the lid. Shake well. Fill 4 rocks glasses with ice and pour over the mixture.
  • Add a splash of cherry juice to each glass. Garnish with the cherries, wedges of fresh pineapple and mint leaves.

GINA'S MAI TAI

1/2 cup fresh pineapple juice
1/4 cup orange juice
2 ounces light rum
1 ounce dark rum
1 ounce triple sec
Juice of 1 lime
Dash grenadine
Maraschino cherries, for serving
Orange wheels, for serving

Steps:

  • Fill a cocktail shaker 1/2 way with ice cubes.
  • Add the pineapple juice, orange juice, light rum, dark rum, triple sec, lime juice, and grenadine and shake for 20 seconds.
  • Strain drinks into 2 ice-filled glasses and garnish with maraschino cherries and an orange wheel.

1 cup orange liqueur
1/2 cup fresh lime juice
1/2 cup fresh orange juice
1/2 cup orgeat (almond) syrup
Grenadine, for topping
Lime wheels, for garnish
Orange wheels, for garnish
Maraschino cherries, for garnish

Steps:

  • In a large pitcher, add the light rum, Jamaican rum, orange liqueur, lime juice, orange juice and orgeat syrup and stir until combined. Add crushed ice to rocks glasses, then pour the mai tai over the ice. Add a splash of grenadine to each, then garnish with an orange wheel, lime wheel and maraschino cherry.
