Time 1h

Yield 4 serving(s)

Number Of Ingredients 14

2 tablespoons olive oil
3 -4 garlic cloves, minced
1 cup honey
1/4 cup soya sauce
1 teaspoon fresh ground black pepper
2 cups flour
2 tablespoons powdered ginger
1 teaspoon cayenne pepper
salt
1 tablespoon fresh ground black pepper
2 eggs, slightly beaten
4 tablespoons cold water
3 lbs chicken wings, trimmed and cut into sections
vegetable oil

Steps:

  • For the sauce: In a medium sauce pan, cook over medium heat the olive oil and garlic to slightly soften; do not let it brown. Add the honey, soya sauce and black pepper. Continue to cook over medium heat and simmer sauce for 5-10 minutes, watching carefully as it simmers because it can foam up and overflow. Remove from heat and allow to cool thoroughly; set aside.
  • The coating: Mix together the 'coating mixture'; set aside.
  • The wash: In a seperate bowl, whisk together the slightly beaten eggs and cold water.
  • Wash and pat dry the wing sections. Dip the wing pieces into the egg wash and then toss into the flour mixture to evenly coat.
  • Drop the coated wings into a preheated 350 degree F deep fryer, filled with vegetable oil.
  • Fry until golden brown, about 15-20 min depending on the size of the wing pieces. While still hot out of the oil, toss the wing pieces in a large bowl with some of the honey garlic sauce.

I have made these many times in the past for my parties and there is never any left everyone loves these and I always get asked for the recipe! If you are serving this for a get together I suggest to double the recipe to make 40 wings --- plan ahead the wings have to marinate for 24 hours, frozen thawed wings retain more moisture it is best to use fresh chicken for this --- make certain to have lots of napkins when you serve these!

THAI HONEY - GARLIC CHICKEN WINGS

Thai Honey - Garlic Chicken Wings image

This is a version that I came up with after I became bored with just the regular honey glazed wings I was so used to seeing everywhere. You will need a 12 step program to stop eating these ! My husband will testify to this. You can't stop at one & I warn you...these are highly addictive. Enjoy.

Provided by Lori Fry-Gordon

Categories     Other Side Dishes

Time 2h15m

Number Of Ingredients 13

1 1/2 kg chicken wings
2 Tbsp thai garlic chili sauce
4 Tbsp lime juice
1/4 c vegetable oil
1 pinch salt and pepper
3 c all purpose flour
2 Tbsp ginger ( grated )
2 tsp mushroom soya sauce available
1/2 c brown sugar
1/4 c honey
2 clove garlic ( finely minced )
3/4 c rice wine vinegar
2 tsp toasted sesame seeds ( white or black )

Steps:

  • 1. Take the chicken wings & split them . Discard the tips . I try to buy them already done . Next in a large bowl or extra large ziplock bag , add the vegetable oil, half the lime juice, garlic, ginger, thai garlic chili sauce, & salt & pepper. Mix ingredients together. Next add the chicken wings to marinade . Place covered in the bowl , or place the sealed ziplock bag in the refrigerator. Let sit for at least 1 hour. ( It's better if it's left overnight.)
  • 2. Once the chicken has marinated for 1 hour , remove from the refrigerator & if not already in a ziplock bag , tranfer to one. Add the flour to the bag & shake the wings until they are thoroughly coated. ( No wet spots. )
  • 3. Preheat the oven to 400 degrees fahrenheit or 200 Celsius . Use a large baking sheet & lightly oil. Next shake off the excess flour on the wings & arrange them on the baking sheet. Try not to crowd the pan . Bake for 25 - 30 minutes on each side until golden.
  • 4. When the wings are baking for the 2nd half hour get a sauce pan ready for the glaze. Add to the saucepan the rice wine vinegar, the rest of the garlic , ginger, lime , & thai garlic chili sauce. Next , add the brown sugar & honey & whisk together. On medium high heat , slowly bring to a boil. Once the glaze starts to boil, bring the heat down to simmer for 10 minutes then turmn off the heat & let the glaze cool down slightly.
  • 5. When the wings are done take them out of the oven & slowly pour the glaze to coat all the wings. Place UNCOVERED in the oven ( heat off ) & let them sit for about 3-5 minutes until glaze is absorbed a little bit. Sprinkle with sesame seeds (optional ) & serve immediately with rice or fries or nothing at all . Take them for lunch the next day too. But you may have to share. Enjoy.

HONEY GARLIC CHICKEN WINGS

Honey Garlic Chicken Wings image

When I get the craving for some wings, I make this simple, sweet and sticky sauce - a real crowd pleaser! Even the kids will love it! The extra step of brining the wings will be the big pay-off as the chicken meat will be moist and flavorful right to the bone. Your family will ask you to make these delicious wings again and again.

Categories     Lunch/Snacks

Time 6h30m

Yield 2 pounds wings, 4-6 serving(s)

Number Of Ingredients 11

2 lbs chicken wings (split, tips removed, towel-dried)
water
1/2 cup kosher salt
vegetable oil (for frying)
1/2 cup honey
1/4 cup ketchup
1/3 cup dark soy sauce
3 tablespoons apple cider vinegar
5 garlic cloves, minced
1/4 teaspoon ground black pepper
1/8 teaspoon cayenne pepper (optional)

Steps:

  • Brine the wings in a covered container by first dissolving kosher salt in cold water. Make sure there is enough water to cover the wings. Refrigerate the wings and salt solution for 4-6 hours maximum.
  • Meanwhile, make the sauce: Combine the honey, ketchup, dark soy sauce, vinegar, minced garlic, black pepper and cayenne in a small saucepan. Simmer on low for 15 minutes to thicken. Set aside.
  • After the wings are done brining, heat the oil in a deep fryer to 320°F.
  • Drain the wings and dry them with paper towel. When the oil reaches the desired temperature, fry the wings a batch at a time (about 10-12 wings together will be best). Depending on the size of your wings, cooking time will vary from 10-15 minutes (check for doneness, even if wings seem pale they may be cooked through).
  • Remove wings from the fryer and place in a large bowl. Add 2 tbsp of the sauce and toss the wings to coat evenly. Add more sauce if needed, but start with a little at a time. Continue frying up remaining wings and repeat this step.
  • Serve with napkins, as these get your fingers sticky!

Categories     Chicken

Time 1h

Yield 2 serving(s)

Number Of Ingredients 7

1/2 cup ponzu sauce (citrus seasoned soy sauce)
1/2 cup honey
6 garlic cloves, minced
1 teaspoon sesame oil
1/2 teaspoon ground ginger
2 green onions, finely chopped (or chives)
2 lbs chicken wings, tips cut off

Steps:

  • Double-line a rimmed baking sheet with foil. Preheat the oven to 400°F.
  • In a mixing bowl, whisk together soy sauce, honey, garlic, sesame oil and ground ginger. Put chicken wings in a 1 gallon zip lock bag and pour in marinade, seal bag and marinate in the refrigerator for at least 1 hour, (or up to overnight), turn often.
  • Remove wings from marinade and spread in a single layer on foil-lined baking sheet. Reserve marinade. Bake wings for 45 - 50 minutes, brushing with sauce twice, turning over each time (after 15 minutes and 25 minutes but not during last 10 minutes of cooking because the marinate will not have long enough to cook properly, having touched raw chicken).
  • In a small sauce pan slow boil remaining marinade over medium high heat until thick and syrupy, pay close attention, it goes from syrupy to burnt very quickly.
  • When done put chicken wings in a bowl and add syrup, toss to coat. Sprinkle with chopped green onions or chives and serve.
