5 tablespoons sugar

Steps:

  • In heavy saucepan pour milk and bring to a boil. Reduce to a simmer and cook for about 45 minutes, stirring occasionally. Stir in sugar and continue simmering 10 to 15 minutes, or until milk has reduced to 3 cups. Strain. Milk can be refrigerated for up to one week.

¼ cup margarine
2 cups white sugar
4 cups nonfat dry milk powder

Steps:

  • Pour boiling water into blender container. Add margarine and sugar. Blend until combined. Add the dry milk powder 1 cup at a time, blending after each addition. Store in refrigerator and use where a recipe calls for sweetened condensed milk, 1 1/3 cups equals one 14 ounce can.

4 cups milk
1 cup granulated sugar (white, brown, etc., you can even use honey, but cook it longer to make up for the extra moisture)

Steps:

  • Combine all ingredients in crockpot and cook on high until sugar is melted.
  • Reduce heat to warm and take the lid off, or turn it sideways so that it's only half off.
  • Cook for four hours, or however long it takes to reduce by half (or more if a thicker consistency is desired).
  • If you're not using this right away, pour into canning jars and seal, keeping in refrigerator, or measure out servings and freeze in ziploc bags.

2 Tbsp non-fat dried milk powder

  • Prepare condensed milk: Pour the milk into a medium heavy saucepan and bring to a boil. Reduce to a simmer and cook 45 minutes, stirring occasionally. Stir in the sugar and continue simmering 10 to 15 minutes or until reduced to 3 cups. Strain, Homemade condensed milk can be refrigerated up to a week.. Meanwhile, prepare the mate: Heat a teapot, rinsing it out with boiling water. Add 1 tablespoon mate for every cup of tea desired. Pour boiling water over tea leaves and let steep 5 minutes. Strain and serve with condensed milk. (To drink cold, use twice as many tea leaves and pour tea over ice cubes. Serve plain or with sugar and lemon.)
