CLASSIC BUTTER CRUST BREAD
Evoking memories of small-town bakeries, this classic white loaf does it all- breakfast, toast, sandwiches, bread with a pot roast dinner. Leftovers make great croutons, French toast or bread pudding.

Steps:
- Add sugar, salt, buttermilk and better to the bread pan.
- 2. Spoon flour on top of liquid. Add yeast.
- 3. Select Basic/White cycle and Light Crust setting and press Start.
- Topping: After bread final rise and just before baking, press Pause.
- Raise the lid, cut 1/2 inch slash down the length of the bread.
- and brush with melted butter. Close lid and press Start to continue cycle.
- I prefer using the Dough cycle, remove, shape, let rise and bake in the oven,.
HOMEMADE BREADCRUMBS
Homemade breadcrumbs are a staple in a number of our favorite, comfort food recipes. Plus, they are easy to prepare and a much better option than the store-bought version, which usually lack flavor and texture. Steps:
- To make in the food processor: Place chunks of bread into processor or blender jar. Pulse to desired crumb size, approximately the size of grains of rice. Add the bread chunks in small batches for the best results.
- To make by hand: Place dry bread in a sealed bag. Smash with a rolling pin to break into crumbs. Place in a resealable bag, and store in the refrigerator for up to 1 month. If using fresh bread, place slices on a baking sheet and dry out slightly in a 300-degree-Fahrenheit oven for 15 minutes. Cool and prepare as directed. You can store these in the freezer for up to three months.
BUTTERED BREADCRUMBS
Buttered breadcrumbs can be used to top casseroles and au gratin dishes or as garnish for vegetables. For extra rich buttered breadcrumbs, double the amount of butter. - 1. Melt butter in a small skillet over medium low heat. As soon as butter is melted and frothy, stir in breadcrumbs. Continue stirring until crumbs are evenly crisp and golden brown.
- 2. Variations: Add to taste grated Parmesan cheese, minced parsley, minced toasted walnuts, toasted almonds or toasted sesame seeds.
- 3. If using any of the above mentioned variations add to the finished buttered breadcrumbs.

- 1. Toast bread VERY lightly - on lightest setting - and allow to cool slightly. Spread each slice with soft butter, then dust with the Mrs. Dash seasoning. Cut each slice into quarters.
- 2. Drop bread a few pieces at a time into a food processor and pulse. Adjust your pulses depending on if you want fine or coarse crumbs.
- 3. These crumbs are very versatile. The longer you toast the bread, the dryer the crumbs. Or you can leave them untoasted for soft fresh crumbs. Use to top casseroles, souffles, add to savory puddings, and many other uses.
- 4. Store any extra in zip-top bags in the freezer.
