1 lb lean (at least 80%) ground beef
4 slices bacon, chopped
1/2 cup chopped onion (1 medium)
1 can (28 oz) baked beans
1 can (15.5 oz) kidney beans, drained
1/2 cup packed brown sugar
1/2 cup ketchup
1 tablespoon vinegar
1 teaspoon yellow mustard

Steps:

  • In 10-inch skillet, cook ground beef, bacon and onion until beef is browned; drain.
  • In slow cooker, mix beef mixture and all remaining ingredients.
  • Cover; cook on Low heat setting 3 hours.

1 pound ground beef
2 large onions, chopped
3/4 pound sliced bacon, cooked and crumbled
4 cans (15 ounces each) pork and beans
1 bottle (18 ounces) honey barbecue sauce
1 can (16 ounces) kidney beans, rinsed and drained
1 can (15-1/4 ounces) lima beans, rinsed and drained
1 can (15 ounces) black beans, rinsed and drained
1/2 cup packed brown sugar
3 tablespoons cider vinegar
1 tablespoon liquid smoke, optional
1 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon pepper

Steps:

  • In a large skillet, cook beef and onions over medium heat until meat is no longer pink; drain. Transfer to a 5-qt. Dutch oven. Stir in the remaining ingredients. , Cover and bake at 350° for 1 hour or until heated through.

Hearty BBQ Baked Beans image

These beans have lots of flavor. I don't care for beans that are to sweet but you can add 2 tablespoons of brown sugar to sweeten these up. They go excellent with grilling. I use Bush's original beans and Jack Daniels BBQ sauce but you can use what you prefer. Reduce baking time to 1 hr if you don't like a thick beans.

1 (16 ounce) can baked beans
4 slices bacon
1/2 onion, diced
1/2 green bell pepper, diced
2 garlic cloves, minced
1/4 cup ham, diced
1/4 cup barbecue sauce
1 tablespoon mustard
1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
1/2 teaspoon liquid smoke
1 teaspoon ground mustard
1/2 teaspoon Tabasco sauce

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
  • Cook bacon in a skillet until almost crispy. Remove bacon from skillet and roughly chop, but do not drain skillet.
  • Use bacon fat to saute onion and bell pepper until translucent, Drain.
  • In a oven safe bowl, combine all ingredients and mix well. Cover with foil.
  • Bake for 1 1/2 hours.

I grew up in North Idaho in a town of 20 people. I lived with three loggers who loved their food, loved lots of food, and loved it thick and filling. This fit the bill perfectly, especially when served with grilled steak or chicken and IDAHO potato salad!

1 lb hamburger
1 package bacon
1 cup chopped onion
1 tablespoon liquid smoke (very necessary for true smoky Idaho flavor)
2 tablespoons white vinegar
1/4 cup brown sugar
2 (32 ounce) cans pork and beans
1 (14 1/2 ounce) can red kidney beans, rinse and drain
1 (14 1/2 ounce) can small white beans, rinse and drain
1 cup ketchup
1 teaspoon salt and pepper

Steps:

  • Brown hamburger and onion.
  • Drain.
  • Dice bacon and brown.
  • Drain.
  • Meanwhile, mix remaining ingredients in a very large bowl.
  • Stir in bacon and hamburger and mix well.

  • Cook bacon in a large skillet until crisp; remove bacon, reserving drippings in skillet. Crumble bacon and set aside Cook onion and garlic in bacon drippings, stirring constantly, until tender; drain. Combine bacon, onion mixture, butter beans and remaining ingredients in a large bowl Spoon mixture into a lightly greased 1 1/2 quart bean pot or baking dish. Cover and bake at 375 for 1 hr. or until beans are tender.
