this is my very first cake i ever made at 7 years old. taken off the calumet baking powder can.

Steps:
- 1. put flour, baking powder, salt,and sugar in a sifter. cream shortening. sift in flour mixture. add 3/4 cup milk, beat2 minutes on low speed. add eggs, vanilla, and rest of milk. beat 1 minute.
- 2. pour into two 9 inch greased round pans. bake at 375 degree oven for 20 to 25 minutes.

- Sift flour with baking powder, salt, and sugar. Stir shortening just to soften. Add flour mixture, 3/4 cup milk, and the vanilla. Mix until all flour is moistened; then beat 2 minutes at medium speed of electric mixer or 300 vigorous strokes by hand, scraping bowl occasionally. Add eggs and remaining 1/4 cup milk; beat 1 minute longer in mixer or 150 strokes by hand. Pour batter into two 9-inch layer pans which have been lined on bottoms with waxpaper. Bake at 350° for 30-35 minutes, or until cake tester inserted into center comes out clean. Cool cakes in pans 10 minutes; then remove from pans and finish cooling on racks. Alternate Baking Pans: This cake may also be baked in three 8-inch layer pans at 350° for 25 to 30 minutes, or in a 1 3 x 9-inch pan for 30 to 35 minutes.
