This is a big hit with everyone in my family! My brother beggs me to come over and make it for him often. It is very filling and the leftovers heat up well wrapped in tin foil and heated in the oven.

Number Of Ingredients 11

1 loaf French bread
1 lb hamburger
1 can cheddar cheese soup
1 can tomatoes, chopped (I use Rotel)
1/2 cup celery, chopped (optional)
1 bell pepper, chopped
1/2-3/4 medium onion, chopped
1 -2 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce (or to taste)
6 -8 slices cheddar cheese
1 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon pepper

Steps:

  • Cut loaf of bread in half, lenghtwise and hollow it out, (save the crumbs).
  • Brown hamburger and drain.
  • Mix all ingredients except cheese slices in a LARGE frying pan.
  • Simmer for 5 minutes.
  • Stir in bread crumbs and fill shell with mixture.
  • Cut cheese slices in half to make triangles and put on top.
  • Bake for 5-8 minutes at 350 degrees to melt cheese.

HAMBURGER AND ONION STUFFED BREAD

1 baguette (day-old is fine)
1 tablespoon extra-virgin olive oil (EVOO) (once around the pan)
1 pound ground beef
Salt and freshly ground black pepper
2 medium yellow onions, finely chopped
1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
Dijon or spicy brown mustard, to dress the bread
4 slices deli Swiss cheese, folded to cover the bread, or 6 ounces Gouda or smoked Gouda, sliced to fit the bread
Chopped fresh chives or flat-leaf parsley, for garnish

Steps:

  • Preheat the oven to 200°F.
  • Crisp the bread in the low oven, split lengthwise, then cut in half again to make 4 bread boats and hollow out the bread. Switch the broiler on.
  • Heat a nonstick skillet over medium-high heat. Add the EVOO. Add the meat, season liberally with salt and pepper, and brown and crumble it, 3 minutes. Add the onions and cook for 10 minutes more, stirring frequently. Add the Worcestershire and remove from the heat.
  • Spread a little Dijon or spicy brown mustard across the bottoms of the breads. Fill with the meat and onions and top the filled breads with the cheese. Melt the cheese under the broiler and garnish with the chives or parsley.

1 pound ground beef
1/2 cup celery, diced
1/2 green bell pepper, diced
Salt & pepper to taste
1 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
1 can cheddar cheese soup
1 loaf unsliced French bread
2 cups bread crumbs
3 slices American cheese

Steps:

  • Brown hamburger, drain. Add celery, green bell pepper, salt, pepper, Worcestershire sauce and soup. Simmer 5 minutes.
  • Slice a lid lengthwise off of bread and hollow out inside. Stir 2 cups bread crumbs into meat mixture. Fill shell with meat and top with slices of cheese, replace top on bread.
  • Replace in foil package and bake 10 minutes at 325 degrees F. Slice and serve...
