1 tablespoon cornstarch
2 teaspoons minced fresh gingerroot
1 teaspoon reduced-sodium beef bouillon granules
3/4 cup water
1/3 cup reduced-sodium soy sauce
CHOP SUEY:
1 pound lean ground beef (90% lean)
2 celery ribs, sliced
1 cup sliced fresh mushrooms
1 medium green pepper, sliced
1 medium sweet red pepper, sliced
1 medium onion, halved and thinly sliced
1 can (14 ounces) bean sprouts, drained
1 can (8 ounces) sliced water chestnuts, drained
1 cup fresh spinach, torn
3 cups hot cooked rice

Steps:

  • In a small bowl, combine the cornstarch, ginger and bouillon; stir in water and soy sauce until blended. Set aside., In a large nonstick skillet or wok, stir-fry the beef, celery, mushrooms, peppers and onion until meat is no longer pink and vegetables are tender. Drain. Stir in the bean sprouts, water chestnuts and spinach., Stir reserved sauce mixture; add to the pan. Bring to a boil; cook and stir for 1-2 minutes or until thickened. Serve with rice.

Number Of Ingredients 12

1/4 cup shortening
1 1/2 cups ground beef
1 cup diced onion
1 cup diced celery
1 cup hot water
1 teaspoon salt
1/8 teaspoon ground black pepper
1 (14 1/2 ounce) can bean sprouts, drained and rinsed
1/3 cup cold water
2 tablespoons cornstarch
2 teaspoons soy sauce
1 teaspoon white sugar

Steps:

  • Heat shortening in a large, deep skillet.
  • Sear ground beef until it cooks through.
  • Then add onion and saute for 5 minutes.
  • Add celery, hot water, salt and pepper.
  • Cover skillet and simmer for 5 minutes.
  • Add sprouts and heat to boiling.
  • In a small bowl combine the cold water, cornstarch, soy sauce and sugar.
  • Mix together and add to skillet mixture.
  • Cook for 5 minutes, or until thickened to taste.

1 can cream of mushroom soup
1 can chicken and rice soup
3/4 cup chopped celery
3 tablespoon soy sauce
mushrooms (optional)

Steps:

  • Brown the hamburger. Add everything else and let simmer for about 30 minutes. Serve over rice or chow mein noodles.

butter - 2 tbsp
onion - 1, chopped
celery - 2 stalks, finely chopped
ginger - 2 tsp, minced
garlic - 2 cloves, minced
hamburger - 2 pounds
molasses - 2 tbsp
soy sauce - 1/4 cup
cornstarch - 2 tbsp
water - 1 cup, hot
water chestnuts - 1 small can, drained
bean sprouts - 1 large can, drained
rice - 4 cups, cooked

Steps:

  • Heat the butter in a large skillet over medium heat, add the onion and celery and cook until softened, about 5 minutes. Add the ginger and garlic, and cook for another minute or two.
  • Increase the heat to medium high and add the ground beef. Cook until browned.
  • Stir in the molasses and soy sauce. Dissolve the cornstarch in the water, then add to the beef and stir and cook until thickened.
  • Stir in the water chestnuts and bean sprouts and cook for a couple more minutes.

1 large onion
1/2 teaspoon black pepper
3 tablespoons shortening
3 tablespoons cornstarch
1 1/2 pound ground beef
1/2 teaspoon brown sugar
5 stalks celery
3 teaspoons soy sauce
2 bouillon cubes
1 1/2 tablespoon water
1/2 tablespoon salt
1 can (12 ounce size) bean sprouts

Steps:

  • Cook thin slices of onion and meat in the oil until brown. Dissolve bouillon cube in 1/2 cup. water. Cut celery into thick slices. Add dissolved bouillon cube, celery, salt and pepper to meat mixture. Cover and cook slowly for ten minutes. Make a paste with cornstarch, brown sugar, soy sauce and water. Stir into meat and cook until sauce is slightly thick and clear. Add drained bean sprouts and cook over low heat until bean sprouts are hot. Serve with rice.
