Yield 6

Number Of Ingredients 10

1 box (9 oz) frozen baby sweet peas
2 cups cubed cooked ham
1 cup shredded Cheddar cheese (4 oz)
2 tablespoons chopped onion
3/4 cup mayonnaise or salad dressing
1 1/2 teaspoons yellow mustard
2/3 cup water
1/4 cup butter or margarine

4 eggs

Steps:

  • Cook and drain peas as directed on box; cool. In large bowl, mix peas and remaining salad filling ingredients. Cover; refrigerate at least 1 hour.
  • Heat oven to 400°F. Generously grease bottom and side of 9-inch pie plate with shortening or cooking spray.
  • In 2-quart saucepan, heat water and butter to boiling. Add Bisquick mix all at once; reduce heat to low and stir vigorously over low heat about 1 minute 30 seconds or until mixture forms a ball. Remove from heat; beat in eggs, one at a time, with spoon. Continue beating until smooth. Spread in bottom of pie plate (do not spread up side).
  • Bake uncovered 30 to 35 minutes or until puffed and dry in center. Cool 30 minutes. Just before serving, fill with salad filling. Cut into wedges.

HAM AND CHEESE SALAD WITH RYE BREAD CROUTONS

Ham and Cheese Salad With Rye Bread Croutons image

This is a fun twist of the sandwich classic, by Grace Parisi for Food and Wine Magazine. She makes this ham salad mixed with crunchy rye bread croutons and little bits of Gruyere cheese. Then she tosses it in a mustardy dressing with celery and chives. Grace likes to wrap the salad in Bibb lettuce leaves for an inside-out sandwich. You may choose to serve any way you'd like. Note: you can prepare the rye croutons in advance.

1 slice tomatoes (optional)
deli sliced smoked turkey (can be added if you like)

Steps:

  • Toast the slices of Jewish Rye bread, then spread the Kraft REAL MAYO on one or both slices. Add your meat(s), cheese, lettuce, tomato. Then if you like, add a green olive to the top or have a dill pickle spear to compliment this sandwich. Enjoy!
  • *Of course you can add or delete any items to suit your own taste!
  • **When I am out of rye bread, I use HomePride wheat bread. Also, my husband and I have found the best deli style smoked ham at Wal-Mart Supercenters. It is from Land O' Frost and is called DAGWOOD smoked ham. Absolutely the best in our opinion!

Time 40m

Yield 6

Number Of Ingredients 17

½ (1 pound) loaf sourdough bread, cut into 1-inch cubes
¼ cup olive oil
¼ cup butter, melted
2 cloves garlic, pressed
1 teaspoon kosher salt
½ teaspoon ground black pepper
2 cloves garlic, pressed
3 anchovy fillets, chopped
1 teaspoon kosher salt
1 large egg yolk
2 tablespoons lemon juice
1 teaspoon Dijon mustard
½ teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
⅓ cup extra-virgin olive oil
2 tablespoons grated Parmesan cheese, or more to taste
¼ teaspoon cracked black pepper, or more to taste
3 hearts romaine - washed, chopped, and chilled

Steps:

  • Preheat the oven to 375 degrees F (190 degrees C). Place bread on a rimmed baking sheet.
  • Whisk together oil, butter, garlic, salt, and pepper in a liquid measure. Pour mixture over the bread and toss with your hands until evenly coated. Spread bread mixture into a single layer. Bake in the preheated oven until golden brown and toasted, yet slightly soft in the center, 15 to 18 minutes, tossing croutons a few times during baking. Remove from the oven and let cool completely while you prepare the salad.
  • Place garlic, anchovies, and salt in a large salad serving bowl; press the mixture with a fork until a paste forms. Stir in egg yolk, lemon juice, Dijon, and Worcestershire sauce until well combined. Slowly whisk in olive oil until all is incorporated and mixture is well blended and smooth. Stir in 2 tablespoons Parmesan cheese and 1/4 teaspoon pepper. Remove about 1/4 cup of dressing and set aside for another use.
  • When ready to serve, add lettuce and 1/2 of the croutons to the bowl with the remaining dressing; toss until well coated. Reserve remaining croutons for another use.
  • Sprinkle salad with additional Parmesan and pepper if desired. Serve immediately.
