This is my tried and true best pasta sauce that is both fresh and healthy!

¼ cup olive oil
½ white onion, chopped
1 tomato, chopped
6 basil leaves, chopped
4 cloves garlic, minced
1 (20 ounce) package ground turkey
1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
¼ teaspoon oregano
2 (15 ounce) cans tomato sauce
½ (6 ounce) can tomato paste, or to taste
salt and ground black pepper to taste

Steps:

  • Heat olive oil in a large pot over medium-high heat. Saute onion, tomato, basil, and garlic in hot oil until the onion begins to soften, about 5 minutes.
  • Break ground turkey into small pieces and add to pot; season with Italian seasoning and oregano. Cook and stir mixture until turkey is completely browned, 7 to 10 minutes.
  • Stir tomato sauce into the turkey mixture; bring to a boil, reduce heat to low, and simmer until the sauce has thickened slightly, 20 to 25 minutes.
  • Stir tomato paste into the turkey mixture until evenly colored; season with salt and pepper. Cook until the liquid is reheated, 1 to 2 minutes more.

1/4 cup extra-virgin olive oil
2 Spanish onion, 1/4-inch dice
4 garlic cloves, peeled and thinly sliced
3 tablespoons chopped fresh thyme leaves, or 1 tablespoon dried
2 (28-ounce) cans peeled whole tomatoes, crushed by hand and juices reserved
1 can tomato paste
Salt
Whole basil leaves, for garnish
Grated Parmesan, (optional)
1 pound ground turkey meat

Steps:

  • In a 3-quart saucepan, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Add the garlic and half the onions, and cook until soft and light golden brown, about 8 to 10 minutes. Add the thyme and carrot, and cook 5 minutes more, until the carrot is quite soft. Add the tomatoes and juice and bring to a boil, stirring often. Lower the heat and simmer for 30 minutes until as thick as hot cereal. Season with salt and serve. Saute onions until light golden brown in olive oil over medium heat and then add the ground turkey, add salt and pepper to taste. Once the ground turkey is cooked add to the sauce When ready to use, the cooked pasta should be added to a saucepan with the appropriate amount of sauce. Garnish with basil leaves and cheese, if using. Produces enough sauce for one medium sized lasagna. This sauce holds 1 week in the refrigerator or up to 6 months in the freezer.

4 lbs ground turkey
1 (106 ounce) can spaghetti sauce
1/2 lb onion, chopped
2 teaspoons oregano
1 teaspoon minced garlic
2 teaspoons basil
1 tablespoon sugar
1 teaspoon cayenne pepper

Steps:

  • Brown ground turkey with chopped onions until meat is no longer pink, and juices run clear.
  • Drain the excess juice.
  • Mix remaining ingredients in a crock pot and stir well.
  • Add turkey and onions to mixture and stir again.
  • Simmer in covered crock pot on low for approx 6 hours, stirring occasionally.
