3/4 cup water
1/8 teaspoon salt
1/4 cup quick-cooking grits
1/2 cup butter, cubed
3/4 cup sugar
2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
3 large eggs
1/4 cup buttermilk
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Pastry for single-crust pie (9 inches)
Whipped cream, orange slices or sliced fresh strawberries, optional

Steps:

  • In a small saucepan, bring water and salt to a boil. Slowly stir in grits. Reduce heat; cook and stir for 4-5 minutes or until thickened. Add butter; stir until melted. Remove from the heat; cool to room temperature., In a small bowl, whisk the sugar, flour, eggs, buttermilk and vanilla. Slowly stir into grits. Roll out pastry to fit a 9-in. pie plate. Transfer pastry to pie plate. Trim pastry to 1/2 in. beyond edge of plate; flute edges. Add filling., Bake at 325° for 30-35 minutes or just until set. Serve warm or cool to room temperature. Garnish with whipped cream and orange or strawberries if desired.

1 cup quick-cooking grits, cooled and cooked slightly
1 cup brown sugar
2 teaspoons flour
2 large eggs, lightly beaten
4 tablespoons milk
2 tablespoons butter or 2 tablespoons margarine, melted
1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
1 teaspoon white vinegar
1 9-inch pie shell, unbaked

Steps:

  • Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F.
  • In a bowl, combine the grits, brown sugar, flour, and eggs.
  • Blend well, then stir in the milk and butter or margarine. Add the vanilla and vinegar, and blend well.
  • Pour the mixture into the pie shell and bake for 35 to 40 minutes, or until the center is just set. Let cool briefly, then serve while still warm.
  • Serve warm by itself or topped with ice cream.

1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
1/2 cup quick-cooking grits
1 egg, beaten
3/4 lb sirloin, ground
1/3 cup tomatoes, chopped
1/4 cup black olives, sliced
3 tablespoons green peppers, minced
1/4 cup flour
1/2 cup cheddar cheese, shredded
1 package taco seasoning mix
1 cup monterey jack cheese, shredded
2 eggs, beaten
2 tablespoons milk

Steps:

  • Bring water and garlic powder to boil in a large saucepan, stir in grits.
  • Return to a boil and reduce heat, cook 4 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  • Remove from heat.
  • Combine flour and cheddar cheese; stir into grits.
  • Stir 1 egg into mixture until well blended.
  • Spoon mixture into a lightly greased 9" pie plate; press with back of a spoon to form a shell.
  • Cook beef and taco seasoning mix in a large skillet until meat browns, drain.
  • Spread meat mixture into pie shell.
  • Top with 3/4 c Monterey Jack cheese, tomato, olives, and green pepper; set aside.
  • Combine 2 eggs and milk.

1/2 c cheddar cheese, shredded
1 large egg, lighly beaten
3/4 lb ground beef
1 pkg taco seasoning mix
1 c monterey jack cheese, shredded, divided
1/3 c fresh tomatoes, chopped
1/4 c ripe black olives, sliced
3 Tbsp green bell pepper, finely chopped
2 large eggs, lightly beaten
2 Tbsp milk

Steps:

  • 1. In a large saucepan, bring the water and garlic to a boil; stir in the grits.
  • 2. Return to a boil; reduce heat and cook 4 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  • 3. Remove from the heat.
  • 4. In a bowl, combine the flour and cheddar cheese; stir into the grits.
  • 5. Stir 1 egg into the mixture until well blended.
  • 6. Into a lightly greased 9-inch pie plate, spoon mixture; press with the back of a spoon to form a pie shell.

1/8 teaspoon salt
1/4 cup quick-cooking grits (not instant)
1/2 cup (1 stick) butter
Green food coloring
3/4 cup sugar
2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
3 large eggs, lightly beaten
1/4 cup buttermilk
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
One 9-inch frozen piecrust, thawed, or 1 refrigerated piecrust, unbaked, fitted into a 9-inch glass pie plate
1 cup whipping cream, whipped and sweetened with 1 tablespoon confectioner's sugar and colored with 1 drop of green food coloring
Strawberries, for garnish

Steps:

  • Preheat the oven to 325 degrees F.
  • In a small saucepan, bring 3/4 cup water and the salt to a boil. Add the grits, reduce the heat, cover, and cook over low heat for 5 minutes, stirring several times, until the grits are very think. Add the butter and 1 drop of food coloring and stir until the butter melts. Set the grits aside and allow them to cool slightly.
  • In a small bowl, stir together the sugar, flour, eggs, buttermilk, and vanilla. Stir well into the cooled grits. Pour the mixture into the piecrust. Bake for 35 to 40 minutes, until set.
  • Serve warm or cold with whipped cream, and garnish with strawberries.

2 cups milk
1 cup quick-cooking grits
2 cups shredded sharp cheddar cheese
3/4 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon seasoned pepper
2 large eggs, lightly beaten
1 large sweet onion, diced
1 tablespoon vegetable oil
2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
1 1/2 cups thick barbecue sauce
1 1/2 cups beef broth
1 lb shredded pork with barbecue sauce

Steps:

  • For Cheese Grits Crust Batter:.
  • Bring water and milk to boil in a large saucepan; add grits, and cook, stirring often, 5 minutes or until thickened.
  • Stir in cheese, salt, and pepper; remove from heat.
  • Stir about one-fourth of grits mixture gradually into beaten eggs; add to remaining grits mixture, stirring constantly.
  • Sauté onion in hot oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat 5 minutes or until golden brown.
  • Stir in flour, and cook, stirring constantly, 1 minute.
  • Gradually stir in barbecue sauce and beef broth; cook, stirring constantly, 3 minutes or until mixture begins to thicken.
  • Stir in pork, and bring to a boil.

2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
3 large eggs, slightly beaten
1/4 cup half and half
zest of one large lemon
1 (9-inch) frozen pie shell, partially baked

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 325 degrees F. In a small saucepan, bring the milk and vanilla to a simmer. Add the grits and cook for 4 minutes, stirring constantly. Add the butter and cook for 1 additional minute. Set aside and cool slightly.
  • In a small bowl, stir together the sugar, flour, eggs, half and half, lemon zest and vanilla. Slowly stir into the cooled grits. Pour into the pie shell and bake for 35 to 40 minutes, or until set.
