A kosher recipe for Turmeric Golden Milk, made with turmeric, ginger, spices, and either cow's milk or non-dairy milk alternatives.

1 1/2 cups whole milk
1 inch piece fresh turmeric, peeled and finely grated or minced (about 1 1/2 teaspoons)
1 inch piece fresh ginger, peeled, and finely grated or minced (about 1 teaspoon)
1/2 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
1/4 teaspoon cinnamon, plus extra for garnish
3 to 4 whole black peppercorns
Pinch cardamom (optional)
1 to 2 teaspoons raw honey, or more to taste, (optional)

Steps:

  • Gather the ingredients.
  • In a small saucepan, combine the milk (or non-dairy milk alternative ), turmeric, ginger, vanilla, 1/4 teaspoon cinnamon, peppercorns, and cardamom (if using). Set over medium-high heat and bring just to boiling. Reduce the heat to low, cover, and simmer gently for 10 minutes, or until the milk is a golden color and has a lightly spiced flavor.
  • Remove from the heat and pour the golden milk through a fine mesh strainer into 2 mugs. Sweeten to taste with honey and dust with cinnamon if desired. Serve hot.

2 cups non-dairy milk (I prefer unsweetened almond or coconut milk)
1/2 teaspoon turmeric paste (recipe below)
1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/4 teaspoon ground ginger (fresh may be used also)
1/2 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
1/2 teaspoon coconut oil
1-2 teaspoons raw honey or 5 drops pure liquid stevia
Turmeric Paste
1/4 cup turmeric powder
1/2 cup water
3/4 teaspoon black pepper

Steps:

  • Mix all ingredients in a small saucepan and gently heat over low heat.
  • Whisk well to ensure you combine the paste, oil, and spices.
  • Serve warm. Enjoy!

  • Mix the turmeric and water in a pan over low heat, stirring until a paste is formed.
  • Once you have a paste, stir in the black pepper.
  • Cool and store in a glass jar in the fridge for up to 2 weeks.

Number Of Ingredients 8

1 cup unsweetened non-dairy milk, preferably coconut milk beverage or almond milk
1 (3-inch) cinnamon stick
1 (1-inch) piece turmeric, unpeeled, thinly sliced, or 1/2 teaspoon dried turmeric
1 (1/2-inch) piece ginger, unpeeled, thinly sliced
1 tablespoon honey
1 tablespoon virgin coconut oil
1/4 teaspoon whole black peppercorns
Ground cinnamon (for serving)

Steps:

  • Whisk coconut milk, cinnamon, turmeric, ginger, honey, coconut oil, peppercorns, and 1 cup water in a small saucepan; bring to a low boil. Reduce heat and simmer until flavors have melded, about 10 minutes. Strain through a fine-mesh sieve into mugs and top with a dash of cinnamon.

  • Golden milk can be made 5 days ahead. Store in an airtight container and chill. Warm before serving.
