This cake was popular during the Depression, and does not have eggs in it.

Number Of Ingredients 9

3 cups all-purpose flour
2 cups white sugar
1 teaspoon salt
2 teaspoons baking soda
½ cup unsweetened cocoa powder
¾ cup vegetable oil
2 tablespoons distilled white vinegar
2 teaspoons vanilla extract
2 cups cold water

Steps:

  • Sift flour, sugar, salt, soda, and cocoa together into a 9 x 13 inch ungreased cake pan. Make three wells. Pour oil into one well, vinegar into second, and vanilla into third well. Pour cold water over all, and stir well with fork.
  • Bake at 350 degrees F (175 degrees C) for 30 to 40 minutes, or until tooth pick inserted comes out clean. Frost with your favorite icing.

4 1/2 teaspoons flour
3 teaspoons sugar
1/4 teaspoon cocoa
1/8 teaspoon baking powder
1 dash salt
1/8 teaspoon vanilla
1/8 teaspoon vinegar
1 1/2 teaspoons vegetable oil

Steps:

  • Preheat Easy Bake Oven 15 minutes
  • Mix together flour, sugar, cocoa, baking powder and salt. Add vanilla, vinegar and vegetable oil. Place in a greased toy cake pan. Pour 1 tablespoon of water over batter. Mix lightly with a fork but do not beat.
  • Bake 10 minutes.
  • Makes 1 serving.

This is a wonderful recipe received from a friend several years ago and it is always a hit at family gatherings. Warning: it is full of calories, but worth every fattening bite.

1 (18 ounce) package white cake mix with pudding or 1 (18 ounce) package yellow cake mix with pudding
1 (1 lb) box powdered sugar
1/2 cup butter
3 eggs
1 (8 ounce) package cream cheese, softened
1 teaspoon vanilla
1 cup chopped pecans or 1 cup nuts, of your choice

Steps:

  • Pre-heat oven to 350 degrees.
  • Grease and flour a 9 x 13 baking dish.
  • Beat together butter and 1 egg until smooth.
  • Mix in dry cake mix just until crumbly.
  • Pat mixture down in pan and sprinkle with nuts.
  • Beat together cream cheese, remaining 2 eggs, powered sugar, and vanilla and pour over mixture already in pan.
  • Bake for 30 to 35 minutes until lightly browned.
