3 lbs apples, combination of Golden Del. & Granny Smith, peeled, cored, & sliced
1 tablespoon cornstarch
1/2 cup sugar
1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/8 teaspoon ground nutmeg
1 cup all-purpose flour
1/2 cup brown sugar, firmly packed
1 pinch salt
6 tablespoons butter, cut into pieces and softened
1 cup almonds, sliced

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 400 degrees. Place the apple slices in a large bowl; set aside. In a small bowl, mix together the cornstarch, sugar, cinnamon, and nutmeg. Sprinkle the sugar mixture over the apples, tossing gently to coat.
  • Spread the mixture evenly into a 1 1/2 quart baking dish. In a separate bowl, mix the flour, brown sugar, salt, and butter until the mixture is crumbly. Add the sliced almonds and mix well. Spoon the mixture over the apples, pressing down slightly as you go. Completely cover the apples with the topping mixture.
  • Bake 45 minutes or until apples are tender. Remove from oven and cool on a wire rack to desired temperature for serving. Or after cooling, refrigerate until ready to eat and serve cold.

peel and slice enough apples to cover bottom of pie plate (I use an 8 inch plate)
TOPPING
2 eggs
1 c sugar (reserve 1/4 cup and add 1 teaspoon cinnamon to this)
2 Tbsp melted butter or maragrine
1 c all-purpose flour
1 tsp baking powder
1 tsp vanilla extract

Steps:

  • 1. Mix all topping ingredients except reserved cinnamon sugar.
  • 2. Sprinkle cinnamon sugar over the top of the apples.
  • 3. Then pour topping over top of all.
  • 4. Bake in a 350 degree oven for 40-45 minutes or until topping is firm and golden brown.

3# thinly sliced apples
1 Tbsp corn starch
1/2 cup sugar
1/4 tsp cinnamon (I use almost double)
1/8 tsp nutmeg
Toss with the juice of one lemon
Mix to crumbly -
1 cup flour
1/2 cup brown sugar
pinch of salt
6 Tbsp butter
1/4 cup slivered almonds

  • combine apples, starch, sugar and spices with juice of one lemon in a large casserole Place crumbly on top and bake at 400 for 45 min.
