Steps:
- Saute onion in reserved bacon drippings in large skillet until tender.
- Add green beans, stirring to coat with bacon drippings.
- Cook, covered, for several minutes.
- Add salt, sugar, undrained tomatoes and crumbled bacon; mix well.
- Reduce heat to low. Cook for 15 minutes longer.

I use home grown green beans, but canned ones will do. Everyone loves these, a little sweet and salty and spicy all together.

- 1. In a skillet add onions to bacon grease and saute. Add beans, salt, red pepper, brown sugar. Turn fire to low/medium and cook covered 45 minutes to 1 hour. Before serving crumble bacon over beans.

- Snap the stem ends of the green beans, or cut them off in a big bunch with a knife if you'd prefer.
- Melt the bacon grease in a skillet over medium-low heat. Add the garlic and onions and cook for a minute. Then add the green beans and cook until the beans turn bright green, about a minute. Add the chicken broth, chopped red pepper, salt and pepper to taste. Turn the heat to low and cover the skillet with a lid, leaving the lid cracked to allow steam to escape. Cook until the liquid evaporates and the beans are fairly soft, yet still a bit crisp, 20 to 30 minutes. You can add more chicken broth during the cooking process, but don't be afraid to let it all cook away so the onions and peppers can start to caramelize.
COMPANY'S COMING GREEN BEANS
This is a favorite recipe given to me by my best friend. It makes an impressive looking dish and it's also really, good. We always serve it at holidays. It's easily adjusted to serve more people.

- Put walnut halves on a cookie sheet and roast them in a 300 degree oven until lightly toasted.
- Remove from the oven and allow to cool.
- Cut the ends off the green beans and remove any strings.
- Place the green beans in a saucepan with 1 teaspoon salt.
- Cover with water.
- Bring to a boil over medium high heat and cook for about 5-10 minutes or until just tender-crisp.
- Remove from heat and drain well.
- Put olive oil into a large skillet and saute bell pepper which has been cut into narrow strips& onion which is cut into thin rings.
- Add garlic to oil mixture.
- Put drained green beans into oil mixture and stir until heated through.
- Add salt& pepper to taste.
- Just before serving, stir roasted walnut halves into the green bean mixture.
- Dish up into a serving bowl or platter and enjoy!
