A rich and delicious dessert. Even got a thumbs up from my father-in-law on this recipe. Adapted from a Holly Berkowitz Clegg cookbook.

Steps:
- Heat oven to 350 degrees F.
- Coat a 13 x 9 pan with cooking spray.
- Combine cake mix, egg, butter, and water by hand.
- Now, pat the batter mixture into the bottom of the prepared pan.
- In a mixing bowl, beat the cream cheese, powdered sugar, and egg whites until smooth.
- Add the vanilla extract. Pour mixture over batter.
- Bake 45 minutes or until top is golden, cool and cut into squares.
CHOCOLATE PUMPKIN CHESS SQUARES

Steps:
- Preheat oven to 300 degrees.
- Combine cake mix, butter and one egg to form a soft dough.
- Spread it into the bottom of a greased 9x13-inch baking pan.
- Then mix the powdered sugar, cream cheese, pumpkin and one egg until smooth.
- Pour over top of the crust.
- Bake for 40-50 minutes until the edges start to turn a golden brown.
- Take them out and you can serve them warm, or let them cool off and serve them cold.

Steps:
- In a big mixing bowl, add the first 4 ingredients; stir just until dry ingredients are moistened.
- Press mixture into the bottom of a greased 13x9 inch baking dish; set aside.
- In another mixing bowl, add the cream cheese, 2 eggs, and 1 cup powdered sugar; beat using an electric mixer on medium speed until blended.
- Gradually add in remaining powdered sugar; beat after each addition.
- Pour mixture over chocolate crust, spread evenly.
- Bake at 350° for 40 minutes.
- Cool on wire rack; cut into squares and serve.

- Combine flour and powdered sugar; cut in 1/2 cup butter with pastry blender until mixture resembles coarse crumbs. Press mixture evenly into bottom of a 9inch sqaure pan, lined with heavy duty aluminum foil. Bake at 350 for 15 minutes, or until lightly browned. Combine sugar, cocoa, and salt. Add 2 tablespoons butter and eggs; beat 2 1/2 minutes on medium with an electric mixer. Add milk and vanilla, mixing well. Stir in pecans. Pour mixture over crust; bake at 350 for 45 minutes or until set.
