CHEESY GREEN BEAN CASSEROLE

This is a twist to an age old recipe. The added cheese and richer texture of the casserole are a big hit amongst family and friends and is requested at every potluck meal or big family meal by even my youngest ones. Note: Unlike the traditional recipe of ages old; I don't add milk; making for a creamier, richer casserole.

CHEESY GREEN BEAN CASSEROLE

Cheesy Green Bean Casserole image

I hesitated to even post this recipe, since there are so many green bean casseroles on here. And yes, this one uses soup and canned French fried onions. The difference is, this recipe uses cheddar cheese soup, not cream of mushroom. I first ate it in 1973 at the home of a (then) middle-aged couple who invited my husband and me to dinner shortly after we were married.

DELICIOUS CREAMY CHEESY GREEN BEAN CASSEROLE

Delicious Creamy Cheesy Green Bean Casserole image

Another veggie family favorite. This can be prepared ahead of time, refrigerated and baked when ready. This is really good with ham. Although I have only made this recipe using frozen beans, I imagine that you could make this using about 3 cans of French-style beans, just omit cooking the beans. Also the 2 cups half and half can be replaced with whole milk, just watch carefully not to scald the milk while cooking.

CHEESY GREEN BEAN CASSEROLE

This is a new twist on the traditional Green Bean Casserole. Once you try this you'll never go back to the "old" way of making it! This is a requested favorite for Thanksgiving and Christmas around my house!

Provided by Austin Dawn

Time 25m

Yield 4-6 serving(s)

Number Of Ingredients 4

3 (14 ounce) cans green beans, cut
1 (4 ounce) can mushrooms, cut
1 (6 ounce) can of french's original French-fried onions
15 ounces original Cheese Whiz

Steps:

  • Place 3 cans of green beans and one can of sliced mushrooms in a saucepan. Salt and pepper to taste.
  • Heat thoroughly. Drain mixture and place back in saucepan.
  • Stir in 1 jar of Cheese Whiz until desired consistency is achieved. Cheese will be runny but it will solidify when the mixture cools.
  • Stir in 1/4 can of french fried onions and place mixture in a shallow baking dish. Put the remaining french fried onions on top of the casserole.
  • Bake in oven, uncovered, at 350 degrees for 15-20 minutes until heated through. If you are going to prepare this dish early, wait to add the french fried onions until you are ready to reheat, as the onions tend to become gooey. Best to use the name brand French's French Fried Onions Original, as the Cheese flavor and Generic versions are not as good.
