CLASSIC BLOODY MARY
Here's how to make the best Bloody Mary! The store-bought version can't hold a candle to this brilliantly flavored homemade mix.

- If time allows, chill the tomato juice and vodka. Shake the tomato juice before pouring.
- In a large cocktail shaker, combine the tomato juice, lemon juice, Worcestershire sauce, horseradish, Tabasco, celery salt and black pepper. Shake well to combine (without ice). Strain into a quart mason jar or small pitcher.
- Optional: If time, chill at least 1 hour or overnight for the best flavor. (Or, make ahead and store up to 1 week.) But you also can serve right away!
- To serve, on a plate place a mixture of roughly half kosher salt and half Old Bay seasoning (or celery salt). Cut a notch in a lemon wedge, then run it around the rim of a glass. Dip the edge of the rim into a plate of salt.
- To each glass, add 2 ounces (1/4 cup) of vodka and 1/2 cup of Bloody Mary mix and stir gently to combine. Fill the glass with ice and add the garnishes.

BEER BLOODY MARYS
Steps:
- Combine the lime juice, tomato-clam juice and hot sauce in a pitcher. Mix well and refrigerate until ready to serve.
- Spread a small amount of salt in a shallow saucer. Moisten the rims of 4 tall glasses with water and dip in the salt. Fill with ice, then fill halfway with the tomato-clam juice mixture. Top with beer and garnish with celery stalks and lime wedges.
SMOKY BLOODY MARYS

- Cook the bacon in a large skillet over medium heat, turning occasionally, until golden brown and crisp, 9 to 11 minutes. Drain on paper towels.
- Meanwhile, combine the tomato juice, vodka, lemon juice, horseradish, hot sauce, Worcestershire sauce, celery salt and 1/2 teaspoon pepper in a pitcher; refrigerate until ready to serve.
- Pour the Bloody Mary mixture into 6 large ice-filled glasses. Add a piece of bacon and a celery stalk to each.

- Pour celery salt into a shallow bowl or small plate. Rub the rims of 2 (16-ounce) tumblers with 1 of the lemon wedges. Dip rims into celery salt. Fill glasses with ice cubes. Pour half of the beer into each glass and top with the spicy vegetable juice. Add a couple dashes of Worcestershire sauce and freshly ground black pepper. Garnish with remaining lemon wedges and celery stalks.

- Stir together the tomato juice, Worcestershire sauce, horseradish, hot sauce, 1/2 teaspoon of the chili powder, the black pepper, vodka and lemon juice in a spouted liquid measuring cup. Combine the remaining 1/4 teaspoon chili powder and the salt in a small shallow bowl. Wet the rim of two highball cocktail glasses and dip into the salt mixture to coat evenly. Pour half of the tomato juice mixture into each glass and top each with half of the ale. Garnish each cocktail with two olives and a cornichon on a skewer.

- Salt the rim of a tall glass. To do so, pour salt onto a small plate, moisten the rim of the glass on a damp towel and press into the salt. Fill the glass with ice cubes.
