BBQ WESTERN BACON BEER CAN BURGER

BBQ Western Bacon Beer Can Burger image

Provided by Jeff Mauro, host of Sandwich King

Categories     main-dish

Time 50m

Yield 4 burgers

Number Of Ingredients 9

1 1/2 pounds ground chuck (80/20)
1 unopened beer can
Cooking spray
12 slices aged yellow Cheddar
1/4 cup barbecue sauce
1 cup sauteed mushrooms
8 slices bacon, cooked and crumbled
1 jalapeno, sliced thin on the bias
4 onion rolls, buttered and griddled

Steps:

  • Preheat a gas grill to medium heat (300 degrees F). Leave one side of the grill off for indirect heat.
  • Separate the ground chuck into 4 equal balls (about 6 ounces each). Wrap the beer can with aluminum foil and spray with a bit of cooking spray. Firmly press the bottom of the can into one of the balls, forming a "meat bowl." Gently slide out the can, then seal any cracks in the meat and make sure the sides of the bowl are even. Repeat with the remaining balls.
  • Place a slice of Cheddar in each meat bowl, followed by about a tablespoon of barbecue sauce, 1/4 cup of the sauteed mushrooms, some of the crispy crumbled bacon, 2 more slices of cheese and 4 jalapeno slices.
  • Place the burgers on the indirect heat side of the grill, close the lid and grill until the meat reaches an internal temperature of 140 degrees F and the cheese is bubbly and gooey, 20 to 30 minutes.
  • Place the burgers on the onion rolls, eat and enjoy!

STUFFED BACON-CHEDDAR BBQ BURGER

Stuffed Bacon-Cheddar BBQ Burger image

This is a good old-fashioned barbecue bacon burger, but the way the cheese and bacon taste at each bite, along with the soft, sweet barbecue onions makes my family go "WOW!" This award winning recipe was created by Allison Koplan, of Tampa, Florida.

Time 1h

Yield 6-8 serving(s)

Number Of Ingredients 13

1 lb ground chuck
1 lb ground round
2 teaspoons black pepper, freshly ground
2 tablespoons garlic salt
8 ounces sharp cheddar cheese, coarsely shredded
1 lb bacon, cooked and crumbled
2 medium vidalia onions, sliced
1 tablespoon butter
8 ounces sweet barbecue sauce (your choice)
6 -8 hamburger buns
8 ounces lettuce (optional)
8 ounces tomatoes (optional)
1/2 cup onion

Steps:

  • Combine ground round, ground chuck, salt and pepper in a large bowl.
  • In another bowl, combine the coarsely shredded sharp cheddar and cooked bacon pieces.
  • Let bacon and cheese mixture sit at room temperature for about 20 minutes to get soft.
  • Then, shape mixture into balls (for however many burgers you would like to make). Form 2 patties of meat and place one cheese/bacon ball in between them.
  • Pinch the sides together to seal in cheese ball. Gently press formed patty, to spread out cheese ball. Continue until all patties are formed.
  • Cook burgers on grill over medium flame for about 7 minutes on each side.
  • While burgers are grilling, slice sweet Vidalia onions and sauté them in a skillet with 1 tablespoon of butter. Once onions become translucent (about 4 minutes), add some sweet barbecue sauce.
  • Flip burgers, and baste the cooked side of the patties with the same sweet barbecue sauce used in the onions.
  • After about 7 minutes longer, the burger should be done (these are big thick burgers and may take longer to grill to your liking).
  • Baste again with sweet barbecue sauce before removing from grill.
  • Butter hamburger buns and place on top rack of grill for several minutes, until toasted.
  • To build burger, take toasted bun, add patty, and top with smothered barbecue onions. You can add tomato or lettuce, if you'd like, but the flavors are great without them.

CHIPOTLE-HONEY BBQ BACON BURGER WITH GORGONZOLA CHEESE

Chipotle-Honey BBQ Bacon Burger with Gorgonzola Cheese image

I try a new recipe that I find on the Internet at least once a week. If it's a "keeper", I put it in my recipe file with comments; such as "a best of 2003" etc. I tried this recipe a couple of weeks ago. Immediately my entire family responded the same way. It rated not only a best of 2003 but perhaps a best of EVER. We had it again last night. And again it got rave reviews - not just an impulsive response from a new recipe. My son declared the next day, "We will NEVER have ordinary burgers again in this house!" This is an "oh, my God" recipe. There is something about the way the flavors blend together that leaves your taste buds wanting for more. This is THE BEST EVER burger recipe. This was the People's Choice Prize Winner ($5,000) in Build A Better Burger Contest submitted by Adam J. Payson, Omaha, Nebraska My only recommendations on improvement is to 1) throw the vegetables in a food processor to speed up the chopping time 2) add a little corn starch after simmering the vinegar to thicken 3) double or triple the recipe for the sauce and freeze for later use

BACON IN THE BURGER, SMOKY GOUDA AND SPICY BBQ MAYO

Bacon in the Burger, Smoky Gouda and Spicy BBQ Mayo image

A take on the classic Bacon Burger. This time ... the bacon is in the burger. Topped with a hickory/smoky BBQ mayo dressed up with chipolte, sauteed onions and smoky gouda cheese all on a hearty roll. Now, to me, the roll can make or break a burger. Take the time to pick up some good quality rolls vs. those packaged store bought ones. Also, take advantage of a store bought hickory/smoky BBQ sauce and just added a little chipolte and honey to save some time. Top it with smoky gouda cheese (available at any major grocery store) which is a must for this. If you want to have friends over for burgers and a pot of chili or soup for a simple dinner ... This is the burger to make.

Yield 6 Burgers, 6 serving(s)

Number Of Ingredients 23

6 hamburger buns (a good onion roll is what I prefer, or good kaiser roll)
3/4 lb ground beef
3/4 lb ground turkey
6 slices hickory smoked bacon, diced very fine
1/2 cup onion, diced very fine
1/2 cup fresh breadcrumb
1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
1 tablespoon barbecue sauce (plain right from the jar)
1/2 teaspoon grill seasoning
nonstick cooking spray, to fry the burgers
1 large onion, thin sliced
1 teaspoon honey
1 teaspoon butter
1/2 teaspoon of the adobo sauce (not the chipolte)
salt
pepper
1/2 cup barbecue sauce (I prefer a hickory or smoky brand, use your favorites)
1/2 cup mayonnaise
1 tablespoon honey
1 chipotle chile in adobo, chopped fine (according to taste you can use more or less)
1 cup smoky gouda cheese, grated
bibb lettuce (I prefer a soft lettuce vs a Romaine or iceberg)
tomatoes, slices (optional)

Steps:

  • Sauce -- Simply mix in a small bowl or measuring cup, the BBQ sauce, mayo, honey and chipolte, refrigerate - Done!
  • Burgers -- Now, I like to use the food processor if you have one. First for the breadcrumbs, next the onion, and then the bacon. But if you don't have one, you can hand chop or grate the ingredients. Use what you have. They still turn out great.
  • Bread Crumbs - 1 slice of whole wheat or any bread you have on hand. It will be approximately 1/2 cup. Either pulse in the food processor or fine chop.
  • Onions - 1 small onion. You can grate it by hand. Or use the food processor. It should be about 1/2 cup.
  • Bacon - Freeze. If you freeze the bacon it is so much easier to work with. NOT rock hard, just 15-20 minutes is all. Dice the bacon as fine as you can. Or you can use the food processor.
  • Burger -- Mix the bread crumbs, onions, worcestershire, BBQ sauce, and grill seasoning until well combined. Then add in the bacon, ground beef and turkey, and mix lightly. Don't over mix. Form 6 patties and set on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper (wax paper or foil) and just freeze; my trick for 10-15 minutes. It just firms them up quickly and makes them easier to cook.
  • Cooking -- I like to use my grill pan, but you can use a saute pan as well. Bring to medium high heat add your burgers. They will take about 6-8 minutes on the first side, then flip and cook about 5 more minutes. You want to completely cook them because of the bacon. Top with the smoky gouda, remove from the heat and cover. The heat from the pan will melt the cheese in just a couple of minutes.
  • Onions -- As the burgers cook, start the onions. In a small saute pan, add the butter, honey, onions, adobo sauce, salt and pepper, and cook on medium high heat. They will take about 8-10 minutes until tender. Just stir now and then and you can reduce to medium after they have cooked a couple of minutes. Just let them simmer until tender.
  • Serving -- Rolls, now I like to toast mine, but that is personal taste - you can if you want. Spread your bottom burger bun with some of the spicy mayo, then top with the burger, next -- some of the onions, lettuce, and (optional tomato), and finish it off with the top bun, also slathered with the spicy BBQ mayo. ENJOY!
