This trifle is a great twist on a banana split. A refreshing summertime treat and great crowd-pleaser!

2 cups cold milk
1 (5.1 ounce) package instant vanilla pudding mix
1 (8 ounce) can crushed pineapple, drained
1 (12 ounce) container frozen whipped topping, thawed
1 marble pound cake, cut into 1/2-inch cubes
2 cups sliced strawberries
2 medium bananas, sliced
2 tablespoons chocolate syrup, or to taste
¼ cup chopped walnuts
1 large strawberry

Steps:

  • Whisk milk and pudding together in a large bowl for 2 minutes. Stir in pineapple. Fold in whipped topping.
  • Place 1/3 of the pound cake cubes in a trifle bowl or other large glass bowl. Pour 1/3 of the pudding mixture on top. Line the side of the bowl with sliced strawberries. Place remaining strawberries over the pudding.
  • Cover strawberries with 1/3 of the pound cake cubes. Pour 1/3 of the pudding mixture on top. Line the bowl with banana slices this time. Place remaining bananas over the pudding. Cover bananas with remaining pound cake cubes. Spread remaining pudding on top.
  • Drizzle chocolate syrup all over the pudding, going in different directions. Sprinkle walnuts over chocolate. Make lengthwise cuts into the large strawberry, keeping the stem end intact. Fan out slices and place on top of the trifle. Serve immediately or refrigerate until ready to serve.

1 Box Yellow Cake Mix or Angel Food Cake Mix or even chocolate cake mix
1 Lg Pkg. Instant vanilla Pudding Please do not use banana flavored
3 large bananas, sliced
1 1/2 cups sliced fresh strawberries
1 1/2 - 2 cups chopped fresh pineapple (or 6 oz can of crushed pineapple, drained)
1 Container - Cool Whip, thawed
1 Jar Maraschino Cherries, diced
1/2 C Pecans, chopped (optional)
1/4 cup chocolate syrup

Steps:

  • Prepare the cake and make sure it's completely cooled before assembling the dessert. Cut the cake into bite-sized pieces. Prepare the pudding mix. In a trifle dish (or large salad bowl) preferably a clear bowl cause it looks so pretty. Break up the bite-size pieces, using half the cake for the first layer. Top the cake pieces with half of the pudding, half of the bananas, half of the strawberries, half of the pineapple, half of the Cool Whip, half the Maraschino cherries, half of the chocolate syrup and half of the nuts. Repeat all these steps with the remaining ingredients in the same order. Chill until ready to serve. *Hint: Don't allow the pudding to set completely before assembling because you want it to work it's way in between the cake pieces before it firmly sets.

3 cups milk, cold
5 1/8 ounces vanilla instant pudding mix (or chocolate)
1 (8 ounce) can crushed pineapple, drained
1 angel food cake, cut into cubes
1 cup strawberry, sliced
8 ounces whipped topping
1 -2 banana, medium and firm, sliced
1/4 cup pecans, chopped
12 ounces hot fudge (can use jarred or homemade)

Steps:

  • Whisk mild and pudding for 2 minutes in a large bowl. Stir in pineapple.
  • Place half of the angel food cake in a large glass bowl, preferrably a trifle bowl.
  • Spread 1/3 of the pudding mixture on top.
  • Cover with strawberriesHeat fudge topping according to microwave directions on the jar, just until pourable.
  • Pour half of the topping over previous layer.
  • Layer remaining cake cubes on top of the hot fudge layer.
  • Spread another 1/3 of the pudding mixture, top with sliced bananas; cover with remaining 1/3 of pudding mixture.
  • Spread whipped topping over all.
  • Drizzle with hot fudge topping and sprinkle with pecans.
  • Chill until serving. Garnish with strawberries and bananas just before serving.

3 cups fat-free milk

1 16-oz. can crushed pineapple, drained
1/4 cup chocolate syrup
1 container fat free whipped topping, thawed
1/2 cup walnuts, chopped

  • If you have not purchased a prepared, packaged angel food cake, prepare and bake cake, following package directions. While cake is baking, prepare pudding mix with milk, following package directions. When cake has cooled, divide in half. 1/2 cup toasted pecans or walnuts
1 (12 oz) package milk or semi-sweet chocolate chips
1 cup heavy cream
2 (3.4 oz) instant vanilla pudding mix
4 cup whole milk or half & half
2 (8 oz) frozen whipped topping, thawed and divided {Or, 4 cups fresh whipped cream)
1 Pineapple pound cake, cubed (See Cook's note)
1 (20 oz) strawberry pie filling
4 cups sliced fresh strawberries
1 (20 oz) can crushed pineapple in syrup
6 medium bananas, sliced
2 Tbsp grated milk chocolate
Maraschino cherries with stems

Steps:

  • 1.Preheat the oven to 350°F. Spread the chopped nuts on a baking sheet. Roast for 6-8 minutes then set aside to cool completely. 2.In a microwave safe bowl, melt together the chocolate chips and heavy cream. Melt in 20-30 second increments stopping to stir each time. Repeat until completely melted then set aside to cool slightly. 3.In a medium size mixing bowl using a mixer, whip together the pudding mix and cold milk. Whip for 2 minutes or until fully thickened. By hand fold in 1 container of whipped cream. (About 2 cups) 4.In a separate bowl, mix together the sliced fresh strawberries and strawberry pie filling. 5.To assemble in a large trifle bowl or glass bowl, layer ⅓ of the cubed pound cake, top with ½ of the strawberries, ½ of the crushed pineapple, 3 sliced bananas. Drizzle the bananas with ⅓ of the chocolate ganache. Spread ⅓ of the pudding over the chocolate drizzle, then repeat until all ingredients are used ending with pudding. 6.Top with whipped topping and sprinkle with toasted nuts and grated chocolate. Garnish as desired with maraschino cherries. Chill until serving. 7.Just before serving the trifle warm the remaining ganache and serve on the side for drizzling. Notes For a time saver, a vanilla pound cake from your local bakery could be used in place of the pineapple pound cake.

1 can(s) pineapple, crushed
1 pt strawberries, quartered
6 bananas, sliced
1 c chocolate chips, mini
1 c walnut pieces
1 jar(s) hot fudge sauce
1 pkg large cool whip
1 c marshmallows, mini

Steps:

  • 1. Bake cake as directed. let cool. cube cake.
  • 2. place a layer of cake in trifle or other large glass bowl. top with pineapple, banana, strawberry, chips, nuts and fudge sauce, the spread cool whip. repeat layers until you run out or bowl is full. spread last cool whip, top with marshmallows, chips and nuts.

cookies
4 boxes of sugar-free pudding
(2 boxes of one flavor, 2 of

2 quarts fresh strawberries
hulled, sliced, slightly

8-9 bananas
8 cups skim milk
1 14.5 oz can pineapple tibits
well-drained
1 large tub non dairy light
whipped topping
1 jar marashino cherries
sugar-free chocolate syrup
Dry-roasted peanuts
(optional)

Steps:

  • 1. Make a single layer of vanilla wafer cookies on the bottom of a punch bowl. 2. Slice 4 bananas, making a fairly even layer of the slices over the cookies. 3. Sprinkle about half of the drained pineapple tidbits over the layer of banana slices. 3. Sprinkle about half of the prepared strawberries over the other fruit. 4. Using an electric mixer, prepare 2 packages of the instant sugar-free pudding per package instructions. Spread the pudding over the layered fruit. 5. Drizzle sugar-free chocolate syrup over the pudding layer. 6. Repeat the layering (steps 1 - 5), beginning with a 2nd layer of cookies. 7. Cover with plastic wrap and refrigerate for 4 hours or overnight. 8. When ready to serve, pile the entire tub of whipped topping on, distribute at least half the jar of marashino cherries over that, and then drizzle more sugar-free chocolate syrup over the topping and cherries. 9. As you serve, offer to sprinkle peanuts over individual servings for guests who are not allergic to them (opt)

If you purchase an angel food cake from your local bakery or the bakery in your grocery store, this recipe takes only 15 minutes to make. It's been a big hit at children's birthday parties and family gatherings. I have been making this recipe for 30 years.
