These bite-size, sweet and salty rolls are easy to make, packed with flavor, and can be prepared in advance, making them the perfect recipe for a stress-free evening. Here are some valuable tips to ensure that your apricot ham rolls turn out perfect every time.

Choosing the Right Ingredients

The quality of ingredients used to make apricot ham rolls will significantly impact the final taste of the recipe. Here are some tips that will help you choose the right ingredients:
Apricots
Apricots are the star of this recipe, so it's essential to choose fresh, ripe ones. To choose the perfect apricot, look for fruit that is plump, round, and has a slight give when squeezed. Avoid apricots that are too firm as this indicates under-ripeness. Alternatively, if the apricots are too soft and mushy, they may have over-ripened.
Ham
When it comes to ham, it's best to choose high-quality cured ham, as this will add a rich flavor and natural saltiness to the rolls. Sliced deli ham can also work, although it may not be as flavorful.
Cream Cheese
Cream cheese is another crucial ingredient that helps to bind the filling together. Choose high-quality cream cheese that is tangy and rich in flavor.

Preparing the Ingredients

The preparation of the ingredients is crucial in this recipe, as it will significantly impact the texture and flavor of the rolls. Here are some tips to ensure that the ingredients are prepared correctly:
Preparing the Apricots
To prepare the apricots, slice them in half and remove the pit. Once you have removed the pit, cut each half into six equal pieces. Make sure to slice the apricots thinly so that they are easy to roll up in the ham.
Preparing the Ham
Take each slice of ham and cut it in half lengthwise. This will create two long strips of ham that you can use to wrap the apricot pieces.
Preparing the Cream Cheese
Soften the cream cheese by leaving it at room temperature or popping it in the microwave for a few seconds. Once softened, mix in some fresh or dried thyme, which will add a savory note to the rolls.

Rolling the Apricot Ham Rolls

Rolling the apricot ham rolls can be challenging, especially if you're working with soft ingredients. Here are some tips to help you roll the apricot ham rolls successfully:
Roll the Ham Tightly
When rolling the ham, make sure to wrap it tightly around the apricot piece. This will help hold the filling in place and prevent the roll from falling apart.
Use Toothpicks
To secure the ham rolls, use toothpicks to hold everything together. Gently insert a toothpick through the ham and apricot roll and secure it on the other side. Make sure to place the toothpick in a way that it runs parallel to the ham roll so that it doesn't puncture the apricot.
Chill the Rolls
Once rolled, place the apricot ham rolls in the refrigerator for at least an hour to chill. This will help the cream cheese set and hold the rolls' shape, making them easier to handle.

Cooking the Apricot Ham Rolls

There are a couple of ways to cook the apricot ham rolls depending on how you want to serve them.
Baking
Preheat the oven to 350°F; place the toothpick secured rolls on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Bake the rolls for 8 to 10 minutes or until the ham is crispy and the cream cheese is slightly browned.
Grilling
Preheat the grill to medium-high heat. Brush the rolls with olive oil, place them on the grill, and cook for 3 to 4 minutes per side or until the ham is crispy.

Conclusion

Apricot ham rolls are an easy yet sophisticated appetizer that everyone will love. Follow these valuable tips to ensure that your apricot ham rolls turn out perfectly every time. Remember to choose the right ingredients, prepare them carefully, roll them tightly, and cook them to perfection. With these tips, you can create a delicious appetizer that will be the star of your party!
