Choosing the Right Ingredients

The success of any recipe depends on the quality of the ingredients used. When making applesauce sweet potato bake, it's important to use fresh and organic sweet potatoes and applesauce. Make sure the sweet potatoes are well ripened, firm, and blemish-free. Also, avoid using canned applesauce because it often has added sugar and preservatives. Instead, make your own homemade applesauce or purchase natural, unsweetened applesauce from the store.

Prepping the Sweet Potatoes

To make the best applesauce sweet potato bake, proper preparation is essential. Start by washing the sweet potatoes thoroughly under running water to remove any dirt or debris. Peel the sweet potatoes and cut them into evenly sized chunks. This will help the sweet potatoes cook evenly and reduce the overall cooking time.

Cooking the Sweet Potatoes

There are different methods of cooking sweet potatoes, but for this recipe, the most efficient way is to boil them. In a large pot, add cold water and a pinch of salt. Place the sweet potatoes in the pot and bring to a boil over medium-high heat. Once they start boiling, reduce the heat to medium-low and let them simmer until tender. Drain the sweet potatoes and transfer to a bowl.

Mixing the Ingredients

Mixing the ingredients is the most crucial part of making applesauce sweet potato bake. Once the sweet potatoes are tender, mash them using a potato masher or a fork. Add unsweetened applesauce, a pinch of cinnamon, and a pinch of nutmeg to the mashed sweet potatoes. The amount of applesauce you add will depend on your personal preference. Mix the ingredients until well combined.

Baking the Sweet Potato Casserole

Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Pour the sweet potato mixture into a greased baking dish and level it out using a spatula. You can add a sprinkle of brown sugar or chopped pecans on top of the mixture for added flavor and texture. Bake the sweet potato casserole for 25-30 minutes or until it's golden brown on top and bubbly around the edges.

Serving Suggestions
