Steps:
- Make the applesauce: Combine the apples, sugar and 1/2 cup water in a large pot. Bring to a simmer over medium-high heat. Reduce the heat to medium low, cover and cook, stirring occasionally, until the apples are very tender but still juicy, about 15 minutes. Remove from the heat and stir in the lemon juice. Mash the apples with a fork, or puree with an immersion blender or in a food processor for a smoother sauce. Transfer to a bowl and refrigerate at least 30 minutes.
- Meanwhile, make the pork chops: Mix the paprika, garlic powder and sage in a small bowl. Season the pork chops with salt and pepper and rub all over with the paprika mixture. Heat a large nonstick skillet over medium-high heat and add the vegetable oil. Add the pork chops, reduce the heat to medium and cook until golden brown on the bottom, about 3 minutes. Flip and cook until browned on the other side and cooked through, 2 to 3 more minutes. Remove to a plate and pour off the drippings from the skillet.
- Add the chicken broth and lemon juice to the skillet and scrape up any browned bits from the bottom of the pan. Add any juices from the plate of pork to the skillet and simmer until the sauce is reduced by half, 2 to 3 minutes. Stir in the butter until smooth. Transfer the pork chops to a platter and top with the pan sauce; sprinkle with parsley. Serve with the applesauce.

- For the grits: In a large pot over medium heat, cook the bacon and onions until the bacon is chewy and the onions are translucent, about 1 minute. Pour in the grits and add the chicken broth. Stir together and bring to a boil. Reduce to a simmer, cover and cook, stirring occasionally, for 30 to 40 minutes. Add the cream and cayenne, stirring them into the grits. Cover the pot and keep cooking over very low heat, stirring occasionally to keep them from sticking, until the grits are tender but still have a bite to them, another 20 to 30 minutes.
- Just before serving, stir in the cheese. Add salt and pepper to taste.
- For the pork chops: Melt the butter with the oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Sprinkle the pork chops on both sides with salt and pepper. Add the pork chops to the skillet and cook until golden brown, about 2 minutes per side. (They'll finish cooking in the skillet later.) Remove the pork chops to a plate.
- Put the skillet back on the heat, add the Applesauce and pour in the wine and vinegar. Cook until the liquid reduces by half, about 5 minutes. Pour in the maple syrup, stir it in and allow it to come to a bubble. Add the pork chops to the skillet, reduce the heat to low, cover and cook for another 20 minutes.
- To serve, spoon a generous helping of grits onto a plate. Lay a pork chop on top of the grits, and then spoon the apples over the top. Be sure to get a little extra pan sauce onto the plate.
- Throw the apples, apple juice and lemon juice into a pan and bring it to the boil over medium-high heat. Lower the heat and simmer until the apples are soft, about 15 minutes. Stir through the sugar and mix until melted. Add the cinnamon and stir through.
- Puree the mixture in a food processor, blender or food mill. If not using right away, leave to cool and then refrigerate.

PORK CHOPS WITH GOLDEN APPLESAUCE
Wow! These are so good. I literally closed my eyes when I ate them. Your family will want them, and your guests will beg you for the recipe. This is a Rachael Ray all time hit. Steps:
- Combine first 8 ingredients in a medium pot placed over medium high heat and cook until a chunky sauce forms, 10 to 20 minutes (depends on consistency you prefer), stirring occasionally. If sauce begins to spatter as it bubbles, reduce heat back a little, but it should be allowed to reduce and form quickly. Once apples are soft and sauce forms, remove it from the heat.
- Heat a large nonstick skillet over medium high heat. Add oil to the pan. Season chops on 1 side with salt and pepper. Using a pair of tongs, add chops to hot skillet seasoned side down. Season the opposite side of the chops with salt and pepper. Brown and caramelize the chops 2 minutes on each side, then reduce heat to medium and cook another 5 to 6 minutes, turning occasionally, until juices run clear.
- Remove chops from heat and let them rest a couple of minutes for juice to redistribute. Deglaze the pan with a splash of apple juice and 2 tablespoons of butter. Pour pan sauce over chops. Remove ginger from the sauce and top chops with generous portions of warm golden apple sauce.
DEE-LICIOUS APPLESAUCE MUSTARD PORK CHOPS

Applesauce pork chops recipes are popular dishes that combine the savory tastes of pork chops with the natural sweetness of applesauce, making for a delicious and satisfying meal. Applesauce is made from cooked apples that are mashed or pureed into a smooth, often slightly chunky sauce. When paired with juicy pork chops, the combination creates a delightful, comforting taste that is perfect for hearty family dinners or special occasions. In this article, we'll take a look at this delicious and easy-to-prepare meal idea, including its origins, variations, and benefits.
The Origins of Applesauce Pork Chops Recipes
Applesauce pork chops recipes are a staple in many American households, as well as in other parts of the world. The origins of this dish can be traced back to the early settlers of North America, who had access to both pork and apples, and often combined the two ingredients in their cooking.
In addition to being a traditional dish, applesauce pork chops recipes are also popular among the health-conscious crowd, as they offer a lean and flavorful option that is low in fat and packed with nutrients. Pork itself is a good source of protein, vitamins, and minerals, while applesauce is known for its high fiber and antioxidant content.
The Basic Recipe
The basic applesauce pork chops recipe involves cooking pork chops in a skillet or oven, seasoned with salt, pepper, and other spices, and then topping them with a spoonful of homemade or store-bought applesauce. Additional ingredients, such as onions, garlic, and herbs, can also be added to enhance the flavor profile of the dish.
One variation of this recipe involves marinating the pork chops in apple cider vinegar or apple juice before cooking, which adds an extra layer of sweetness and tanginess to the dish. Another option is to grill the pork chops and then serve them with a side of sautéed apples or a Waldorf salad, which combines apples, celery, walnuts, and mayonnaise.
Additional Variations
Applesauce pork chops recipes can be easily adapted to suit different tastes and dietary preferences. Some variations include:
1. Slow-cooker applesauce pork chops
This recipe involves cooking the pork chops and applesauce in a slow cooker, which creates a tender and juicy texture that is perfect for busy days or weeknights. Simply season the pork chops, place them in the slow cooker, pour the applesauce over them, and let them cook on low for 4-6 hours.
2. Baked applesauce pork chops
This recipe involves baking the pork chops and applesauce in the oven, which creates a crispy and flavorful coating that is great for special occasions. To make the dish, season the pork chops, cover them with applesauce, and bake them for 20-25 minutes at 375°F. For added crunch and texture, you can top the dish with bread crumbs, cheese, or nuts.
3. Maple-glazed applesauce pork chops
This recipe involves glazing the pork chops with a mixture of maple syrup, apple cider vinegar, and Dijon mustard, which creates a rich and tangy flavor that is perfect for fall or winter. To make the glaze, mix the ingredients in a bowl, brush it over the pork chops, and then bake or grill them as usual.
Benefits of Applesauce Pork Chops Recipes
Applesauce pork chops recipes offer a wide range of health benefits, including:
1. High in protein
Pork chops are a good source of protein, which is essential for building and repairing muscle tissue, regulating hormones, and supporting a healthy immune system. One 4-ounce serving of pork chops contains about 24 grams of protein, which is about half of the daily recommended intake for adults.
2. Low in fat
Pork chops are a lean cut of meat, which means that they contain less fat and calories than other types of meat, such as beef or lamb. One 4-ounce serving of pork chops contains about 140 calories and 4 grams of fat, which is about the same as a skinless chicken breast.
3. High in fiber
Applesauce is a good source of fiber, which is important for promoting digestive health, regulating blood sugar levels, and reducing the risk of chronic diseases, such as heart disease, diabetes, and cancer. One 1/2 cup serving of unsweetened applesauce contains about 2-3 grams of fiber, which is about 8-12% of the daily recommended intake for adults.
4. Rich in antioxidants
Applesauce is rich in antioxidants, which are compounds that help protect the body from damage caused by free radicals, unstable molecules that can lead to inflammation, cell damage, and aging. Applesauce contains several types of antioxidants, including polyphenols, flavonoids, and vitamins C and E.
Conclusion
In conclusion, applesauce pork chops recipes offer a tasty and nutritious meal option that is easy to prepare and can be adapted to suit different tastes and dietary preferences. Whether you prefer slow-cooker, baked, or maple-glazed pork chops, there are plenty of variations to choose from. So why not try making this classic comfort food dish for your next family dinner or special occasion?
Choose the Right Cut of Pork
Choosing the right cut of pork is essential to making delicious applesauce pork chops. The best cut for this recipe is a bone-in pork chop, which tends to be juicier and more flavorful than boneless cuts. The thickness of the pork chop is also important, as thicker cuts will take longer to cook, and thinner cuts can become dry and tough. Look for pork chops that are at least 1 inch thick for the best results.Brine the Pork Chops
One way to ensure that your pork chops are juicy and flavorful is to brine them before cooking. Brining involves soaking the pork chops in a solution of salt, sugar, and water for a period of time before cooking. This process helps to tenderize the meat, infuse it with flavor, and keep it moist during cooking. You can also add other herbs and spices to the brine to enhance the flavor even further.Ingredients for a basic pork chop brine:
- 4 cups cold water
- 1/4 cup kosher salt
- 1/4 cup brown sugar
- 1 tablespoon whole peppercorns
- 2 bay leaves
Season the Pork Chops
Before cooking the pork chops, season them generously with salt, pepper, and any other herbs or spices that you like. Rosemary, thyme, and garlic are all excellent options that pair well with applesauce. Be sure to season both sides of the pork chops so that the flavor is evenly distributed.Sear the Pork Chops
To get a nice brown crust on the pork chops and seal in the juices, it's essential to sear them before baking or grilling. Heat a large skillet over medium-high heat and add a tablespoon of oil. When the oil is hot, add the pork chops and let them cook undisturbed for 2-3 minutes until they are browned on one side. Flip them over and repeat on the other side. Remove the pork chops from the skillet and set them aside.Make the Applesauce
Homemade applesauce is quick and easy to make, and it's much tastier than store-bought versions. Plus, you can customize it to your liking by adjusting the sweetness and spice level. To make applesauce, start by peeling and chopping 4-6 medium apples into small pieces. In a saucepan, add the apples, 1/4 cup of water, 2 tablespoons of sugar, 1 teaspoon of cinnamon, and a pinch of nutmeg. Bring the mixture to a boil over medium heat, then reduce the heat and let it simmer for 15-20 minutes until the apples are soft and the liquid has thickened. Use a potato masher or immersion blender to mash the apples until they reach your desired consistency.Add the Applesauce to the Pork Chops
Once the applesauce is ready, spoon it over the pork chops, covering them evenly. You can also use a brush to apply the sauce if you prefer a thinner layer. Make sure that the applesauce covers the entire surface of the pork chops, as this will help to keep them moist during cooking.Bake or Grill the Pork Chops
Now it's time to cook the pork chops until they are fully cooked and tender. There are two main methods for cooking pork chops - baking and grilling. Baking is a good option if you want a more hands-off approach, while grilling will give you that nice charred flavor. Here's how to cook the pork chops using both methods:Baking Method:
- Preheat your oven to 375°F.
- Place the pork chops in a baking dish and bake for 20-25 minutes, or until the internal temperature reaches 145°F.
- Remove the pork chops from the oven and let them rest for 5 minutes before serving.
Grilling Method:
- Preheat your grill to medium-high heat.
- Place the pork chops on the grill and cook for 6-7 minutes per side, or until the internal temperature reaches 145°F.
- Remove the pork chops from the grill and let them rest for 5 minutes before serving.
