Applesauce dump cake recipes are an easy and delicious dessert that anyone can make. This dessert is perfect for those who have limited time to spend in the kitchen but still want to enjoy a sweet treat. The recipe is simple and requires only a few ingredients, most of which you probably already have in your pantry. The best part is that you can customize the recipe to your liking by adding your favorite fruits, nuts or spices.
The Basics
The basic recipe for applesauce dump cake consists of flour, sugar, baking powder, salt, cinnamon, applesauce, eggs, and vanilla extract. These ingredients are mixed together in a bowl and then poured into a greased baking dish. The topping is made by mixing brown sugar, chopped nuts, and butter together and then sprinkling it over the cake mixture. The cake is then baked in the oven for about 35-40 minutes, or until it is golden brown and a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
Variations
One of the great things about applesauce dump cake is how versatile it is. You can substitute other types of fruit for the applesauce, such as peach, cherry or blueberry. You can also add nuts, such as almonds or pecans, to the cake mixture or the topping. Spices like nutmeg or ginger can also be added to give the cake a warm, comforting flavor. For a healthier version of the cake, you can substitute whole wheat flour or oat flour for the all-purpose flour and use coconut sugar or honey instead of white sugar.
Pro Tips
- Use a quality baking dish
- Grease the pan before adding the mixture
- Choose high-quality ingredients
- Don't overmix the batter
- Add the topping carefully
- Let the cake cool before serving
A good baking dish is an essential tool for making any kind of cake. When making applesauce dump cake, make sure to choose a dish that is sturdy and can withstand high temperatures. A glass or ceramic baking dish is a great option since it will distribute the heat evenly and prevent the cake from sticking.
To prevent the cake from sticking to the pan and ruining your dessert, be sure to grease the baking dish before pouring in the cake mixture. You can use butter or oil to coat the dish, or you can use cooking spray for a more convenient option.
The quality of the ingredients you use can have a major impact on the taste of your cake. For best results, choose fresh, high-quality ingredients, such as fresh apples or high-quality nuts. This will help to ensure that your cake tastes delicious and doesn't have a stale, off flavor.
Overmixing the batter can cause the cake to become tough and dense. To avoid this, mix the ingredients until they are just combined, and be careful not to overwork the batter. A little lumps and bumps in the cake mixture are okay since they will even out during the baking process.
The topping for applesauce dump cake is what makes it so delicious, so it's important to add it carefully to ensure that it's evenly distributed over the top of the cake. Use a spoon or a spatula to sprinkle the topping over the cake, and gently press it down so that it adheres to the batter.
Although it can be tempting to dig into your warm, moist apple dump cake right out of the oven, it's essential to let the cake cool before serving. This will give the cake time to set up and will make it easier to slice into neat pieces. As a general rule, you should wait at least 10-15 minutes before cutting into the cake.

Whether you're using fresh applesauce, canned fruit, or other additions like nuts and spices, this dessert is a crowd-pleaser that everyone will love.
