Apple raisin bread pudding with cream soda sauce is a classic dessert that comes together easily and can be a crowd-pleaser. This pudding incorporates the sweetness of apples, raisins and cream soda to create a creamy and flavorful experience. If you're a beginner or an expert in pudding-making, this recipe is for you, and with proper care and attention, you can make it to perfection. Below are valuable tips to keep in mind when making the recipe.

> Tip #1: Choose the Right Bread

Bread is one of the most crucial ingredients in bread pudding, and selecting the right bread can be the difference between a light, fluffy pudding or a dense and heavy one. Therefore, it's essential to choose the right type of bread for your recipe, and most people prefer using day-old or stale bread. The reason for this is because stale bread can absorb the liquid ingredients better than fresh bread, making the pudding moist and flavorsome.
Types of bread you can use:
  • Baguette, ciabatta or sourdough - these types of bread are rustic, hearty and have a lovely crust.
  • Brioche or Challah - these types of bread are soft and buttery, and they make the pudding rich and decadent.
  • Cinnamon bread or raisin bread - these types of bread come with a sweet, spicy flavor, making it perfect for recipes that require raisins like this recipe.

> Tip #2: Soak the Bread

Before mixing the ingredients together, it's essential to soak the bread in a liquid mixture to soften it and add more flavor to the pudding. The longer the bread soaks, the richer and creamier the pudding will be. For this recipe, you can use a mixture of milk, eggs, sugar, cinnamon, and vanilla. It's essential to ensure that the bread is fully submerged in the liquid mixture, and you can use your hands to ensure that it soaks well.
Soaking ratio:
  • For every four cups of bread, you can use four cups of liquid mixture, consisting of 2 cups milk and 2 cups cream, four eggs, half a cup of sugar, a tablespoon of cinnamon, and a teaspoon of vanilla extract.
  • You can add grated apples, raisins, or any other ingredients you prefer at this point.
  • Cover the bowl with plastic wrap and let it sit in the refrigerator for at least an hour or overnight to allow the bread to soak up the liquid mixture completely.

> Tip #3: Bake the Pudding Correctly

After soaking the bread, you can then bake the pudding in a preheated oven until it's golden brown and firm to the touch. Baking time can vary depending on the recipe, and it can take between 45-60 minutes. However, there are several things you can do to ensure you get the perfect bake.
Baking tips:
  • Ensure the oven is well preheated to 350 F/ 175 C and set the baking dish in the middle of the oven.
  • You can use a water bath to keep the pudding moist and prevent cracking, where you place the baking dish in a larger baking dish filled with water.
  • Check the pudding often after 45 minutes, and insert a toothpick in the pudding's center to check if it's completely baked. If the toothpick comes out clean, remove the pudding from oven and let it cool before slicing and serving.

> Tip #4: Make the Cream Soda Sauce to Complement the Pudding

The cream soda sauce is one of the highlights of this recipe, and it's what makes this dessert extra rich and flavorful. The cream soda sauce uses cream soda and heavy cream to create a creamy and bubbly sauce that complements the freshness of the apples and raisins. Ensure you prepare the sauce correctly to enjoy the perfect taste.
Cream soda sauce recipe:
  • In a saucepan over medium heat, dissolve a cup of sugar into a can of cream soda until the sugar has dissolved.
  • Whisk in a cup of heavy cream and let it simmer until thickened, making sure to stir frequently to prevent overheating.
  • Remove the saucepan from heat, add a tablespoon of vanilla extract, and stir to combine.
  • Pour the sauce into a jar or container and refrigerate until serving time.

> Tip #5: Garnish and Presentation Tips

Lastly, after baking and preparing the cream soda sauce, it's essential to present the pudding well, and one of the ways to do this is by garnishing the pudding creatively. You don't need a lot of effort or skill to make your dish look beautiful, and with a few simple tips, you can make it look impressive.
Garnish and presentation tips:
  • Sprinkle a dash of cinnamon or powdered sugar on top of the pudding to add color, flavor and give it a beautiful finish.
  • Drizzle the cream soda sauce over the pudding or serve it on the side in a jug or mini-saucepan.
  • Serve the pudding warm or chilled, depending on your preference, and add a scoop of vanilla ice cream, whipped cream, or fresh berries to add even more flavors and textures.
  • You can also serve individual portions in mini ramekins, or in a larger baking dish and let your guests serve themselves.

Conclusion

In conclusion, making apple raisin bread pudding with cream soda sauce is an excellent way to create a decadent and flavorful dessert.
