Time 4h55m

Number Of Ingredients 12

1 box yellow cake mix (plus ingredients called for on the package)
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
21 ounce apple pie filling (roughly chopped)
1 13- ounce can dulce de leche sweetened condensed milk
8- ounces cream cheese (softened)
1/2 cup butter (softened)
2-3 cups powdered sugar
1/2 cup caramel sauce
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
2 cups whipped cream or cool whip (or more as desired)
Caramel sauce
Chopped pecans or toffee bits

Steps:

  • In a large mixing bowl, stir 1 teaspoon cinnamon into the dry cake mix, then add ingredients called for on the package. Beat for 2 minutes with an electric mixer. Gently fold in chopped apple pie filling (I just used kitchen scissors and cut the apples right in the can). Pour into a greased 13x9-inch baking dish and bake cake in a preheated oven according to package instructions.
  • When the cake is done, remove from the oven and cool for 20 minutes.
  • Gently poke holes into the cake with the end of a wooden spoon or with the tines of a fork. The cake is very moist, so do this gently to avoid pulling it apart.
  • Pour the dulce de leche into a microwavable container and microwave in 20 second intervals, stirring each time, until thin enough to pour; about 1 minute.
  • Pour the dulce de leche over the cake and spread gently in an even layer.
  • Refrigerate cake for 4 hours or up to overnight.
  • Meanwhile, make the frosting. Beat butter and cream cheese on high speed for 2 minutes or until light and fluffy. Beat in powdered sugar, 1 teaspoon cinnamon and 1/2 cup caramel sauce. Beat for 1-2 minutes until smooth. Gently fold in whipped cream or cool whip. Add more as desired for a thicker consistency.
  • Drizzle with remaining caramel and sprinkle with optional chopped pecans or toffee bits. Refrigerate until ready to serve, then cut into squares.

Time 3h55m

Number Of Ingredients 12

1 white cake (prepared in a 13×9 baking dish)
1 cup light brown sugar, packed
2 cups peeled & diced apples
¼ cup water
1 teaspoon cinnamon
¼ teaspoon nutmeg
¼ teaspoon kosher salt
14 ounce can sweetened condensed milk
1 box (3.4 ounce) Instant vanilla pudding mix
2 cups milk
1 teaspoon cinnamon
12 ounce whipped topping, thawed

Steps:

  • Prepare white cake according to box directions for a 13×9 cake.
  • While cake is baking, work on cooking the apples. In a large skillet, whisk together the brown sugar with water, cinnamon, nutmeg and salt. Heat over medium high heat until bubbly, then add diced apples. Reduce heat to low and simmer apples about 12-15 minutes.
  • When cake is done baking, poke holes all over (I use a meat thermometer, you can also use a wooden spoon handle or fork). Pour can of sweetened condensed milk over hot cake. Then pour apple mixture. Spread and smooth until apples are evenly disbursed over top of cake and liquids have drained into the poked holes of the cake.
  • Refrigerate 3-4 hours or overnight.
  • While cake is in refrigerator, whisk the vanilla pudding with milk and cinnamon until smooth. Refrigerate until ready to serve.
  • When ready to serve cake, combine pudding mixture with thawed Cool Whip. Spread over cake, slice and serve. ENJOY!

Looking to whip up a dessert that is sure to impress your family and friends? Look no further than the apple pie poke cake! This delectable dessert combines the flavors of apple pie with the convenience and simplicity of a poke cake. If you are looking to make the perfect apple pie poke cake, here are some valuable tips to keep in mind.

Tip 1: Choosing the Right Cake Mix

The first step to creating a delicious apple pie poke cake is to choose the right cake mix. While you can certainly use a plain vanilla or white cake mix, a spice cake mix is the perfect choice for this recipe. The addition of cinnamon and other spices in the cake mix will help to enhance the apple pie flavor of the finished dessert.

Tip 2: Choosing the Right Apples

When it comes to making an apple pie poke cake, the type of apples you choose can have a big impact on the final result. Granny Smith apples are a popular choice for apple pies due to their tartness and firm texture, but they can be a bit too tart for some people's tastes. If you prefer a sweeter apple, Honeycrisp or Braeburn apples are great choices.

Tip 3: Using Homemade Apple Pie Filling

While you could certainly use a store-bought apple pie filling for your poke cake, nothing beats the flavor of homemade apple pie filling. Not only is it easy to make your own filling, but it also allows you to customize the sweetness and spice level to your liking.

Tip 4: Properly Incorporating the Apple Pie Filling

One of the challenges of making an apple pie poke cake is incorporating the apple pie filling into the cake without making it too soggy. To avoid this, take care to spoon the filling over the cake in small dollops, rather than pouring it all at once. This will help to distribute the filling more evenly and reduce the risk of the cake becoming mushy.

Tip 5: Letting the Cake Cool Completely

Once you have finished baking your apple pie poke cake, it is important to let it cool completely before proceeding with the next steps. This will allow the cake to set and make it easier to poke holes in it without causing it to fall apart.

Tip 6: Properly Poking the Holes

The key to a good poke cake is, of course, the holes. To properly poke the holes in your apple pie poke cake, use the end of a wooden spoon or a similar tool to create small, even holes all over the cake. Be careful not to poke the holes too deeply, as you want to leave some cake intact to hold the filling.

Tip 7: Using a Cream Cheese Frosting

While there are many types of frosting you could use for your apple pie poke cake, a cream cheese frosting is a popular choice for several reasons. Cream cheese frosting is tangy and not overly sweet, which complements the sweetness of the cake and filling. It also provides a creamy texture that pairs well with the cake's soft, fluffy crumb.

Tip 8: Garnishing with Cinnamon Sugar

To really drive home the apple pie flavor of your poke cake, consider garnishing it with a sprinkle of cinnamon sugar. This simple and delicious touch adds a touch of warmth and sweetness to the finished dessert that will have everyone coming back for seconds.
Conclusion
Making an apple pie poke cake is a fun and delicious way to combine two classic desserts into one. By following these valuable tips, you can create a dessert that is sure to impress your family and friends at your next gathering. So break out your baking supplies and get ready to make a dessert that is as beautiful as it is delicious!
