Time 1h5m

Number Of Ingredients 10

3 cups all-purpose flour
2 Tablespoons sugar
1/2 teaspoon salt
1¼ cups vegetable shortening
7-12 Tablespoons ice-cold water
6 cups peeled and sliced apples
2/3 cup granulated sugar
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/8 teaspoon ground nutmeg
2 Tablespoons unsalted butter (cut into 4 or 5 pieces)

Steps:

  • Place the top oven rack in the center position and pre-heat oven to 450°F.
  • To prepare pie crust, add flour, sugar, salt, and vegetable shortening to a large bowl and mix with a hand mixer. Gradually add ice-cold water until the dough binds together and can form a ball. Place in the refrigerator and chill for 30 minutes.
  • Meanwhile, add sliced apples, sugar, cinnamon, and nutmeg to a large bowl and toss gently to combine.
  • Remove the dough from the refrigerator and divide it into 2 even sections. Roll out each piece of dough into a 10-11 inch diameter for a 9-inch pie.
  • Line a 9-inch pie pan with one of the crusts. Transfer the apple filling to the pie crust.
  • Place top crust over the pie and crimp the edges together. Cut 4-5 vents into the top crust with a sharp knife and place a small piece of butter in each. Cover edges with foil or a pie crust protector to prevent over-browning.
  • Bake for 10 minutes at 450°F. Reduce temperature to 350°F and continue baking for another 35-40 minutes. Remove from oven and cool for at least 15 minutes before slicing and serving with some No Churn Vanilla Ice Cream, if desired. Enjoy!

Provided by Rie McClenny

Categories     Desserts

Yield 14 servings

Number Of Ingredients 12

4 granny smith apples
½ lemon, juiced
2 tablespoons butter
¼ cup sugar
½ teaspoon cinnamon
¼ teaspoon nutmeg
2 large flour tortillas
¼ cup melted butter
¼ cup sugar
½ tablespoon cinnamon
vanilla ice cream, for serving
caramel sauce, for serving

Steps:

  • Preheat the oven to 350˚F (180˚C).
  • Peel and core the apples. Soak the peeled apples in a large bowl filled with water and lemon juice so they won't brown. Working one at a time, thinly slice the apples.
  • Melt the butter in a medium saucepan over medium heat. Add the apple slices and sprinkle with the sugar, cinnamon, and nutmeg. Stir continuously and cook until the apples are soft, about 10 minutes. Remove the pan from the heat.
  • Make the taco shells: Using a cookie cutter or the lid of a mason jar, cut out 14 small circles from the tortillas.
  • Brush the small tortilla rounds with melted butter and coat with cinnamon sugar. Shape the cut-out tortillas to look like taco shells and place between the cups of an upside-down muffin tin to hold their shapes.
  • Bake for 10 minutes, or until golden brown. Let the taco shells cool until easy to handle.
  • Spoon the apple pie filling into the taco shells. Top with small scoops of vanilla ice cream and drizzle with caramel sauce.
  • Enjoy!

Here are some valuable tips to help you make the perfect apple pie a la mode taco cup recipes every time.
1. Use high-quality ingredients
The key to making great apple pie a la mode taco cup recipes is to use high-quality ingredients. Make sure you choose fresh, ripe apples that are perfect for baking. Use a high-quality pie crust mix or make your own from scratch. The taco shells should also be of high quality to ensure that they hold their shape when stuffed with the apple pie filling.
2. Use the right apples
The type of apples you use to make your apple pie a la mode taco cup recipe is essential. Not all varieties of apples are suitable for baking. Use apples that are firm, crisp, and hold their shape when baked, such as Honeycrisp, Granny Smith, or Fuji apples. Avoid using apples that are too soft and mushy, such as Red Delicious or Gala apples, as they will turn into apple sauce when baked.
3. Cut the apples into small pieces
When making apple pie a la mode taco cup recipes, it's essential to cut the apples into small pieces. This will ensure that they cook evenly and fit inside the taco shells. Try to cut the apples into small, uniform pieces of about 1/4 inch in size.
4. Thicken the apple pie filling
The apple pie filling for your taco cups should have the right consistency. You don't want the filling to be too runny, or it will make the taco shells soggy. Thicken the filling by using cornstarch or tapioca flour as a thickener. Mix it with the apple pie filling before placing it inside the taco shells.
5. Bake the taco cups thoroughly
When baking your apple pie a la mode taco cup recipe, it's essential to ensure that the taco shells are crispy and fully cooked. Bake the taco cups at 375°F for about 15-20 minutes, or until the taco shells are golden brown and crispy, and the apples are tender.
6. Serve with ice cream
To make your apple pie a la mode taco cups truly special, serve them with a scoop of vanilla ice cream. The combination of the warm apple pie filling and the cold ice cream makes for a delightful and delicious contrast in temperature and texture.
