BAKED APPLE DELIGHT

Baked Apple Delight image

From the website SuperFoodsRX. This delicious, healthy dessert not only tastes incredible - the entire ingredients list are all "superfoods"! This recipe is rich in so many nutrients that it would be too long to name them all here ;) but they include fiber, ascorbic acid, vitamin E, magnesium, potassium, calcium, folate, polyphenols, salicylates and oligosaccharides (detoxifying and cholesterol-lowering). The original recipe says that this dish can be served warm or cold, but it's SOO much better warm IMO. Great for those cold winter nights. Serve with a nice mug of warmed vanilla soy milk topped with a sprinkle of cinnamon.

APPLE, ORANGE, AND YOGURT DELIGHT

Apple, Orange, and Yogurt Delight image

I make these the night before for my husband and I to grab and go the next day. The acid in the mandarin oranges keeps the apples from turning brown. Sometimes, I'll add half a banana to each one for more fruit. I either use nonfat vanilla yogurt or plain nonfat Greek yogurt with a little vanilla extract mixed in. And I don't peel the apples for the extra fiber. It's so simple to make....if you can cut up fruit, then you can have this simple recipe!

Provided by CookingBlues

Categories     Breakfast

Time 5m

Yield 2 containers, 2 serving(s)

Number Of Ingredients 5

1 (11 ounce) can mandarin oranges, partially drained and reserve juice
1 medium granny smith apple, cut into 1-inch chunks
1 cup nonfat vanilla yogurt, divided
1/2 cup wheat germ, divided
2 teaspoons honey, divided

Steps:

  • Mix the partially drained Mandarin oranges and the chunked apple together. Here is where you can add half a banana too. If you like more juice, spoon some of the reserved juice into the mixture to make sure the apple is coated. This acid stops the apple from turning brown overnight.
  • Divide the fruit mixture into 2 containers.
  • Top each container with 1/2 cup of vanilla yogurt (or you can use plain yogurt with a bit of vanilla extract stirred in for less sugar)
  • If you are going to enjoy this the next day, cover at this step and put in the fridge.
  • Top one container with 1/4 cup wheat germ and 1 teaspoon of honey before enjoying!

Add Spices
Cinnamon, nutmeg, and allspice are some of the common spices added to apple delight recipes to enhance their flavor. Experiment with different spices to find the perfect combination that suits your taste buds.

Apple delight recipes are known to be healthy, easy to make, and absolutely delicious. Apples are a versatile and nutritious ingredient, and they can be used in various ways to make desserts, snacks, and even savory dishes. If you are looking for ways to create some fantastic apple-based recipes, there are a few essential tips that you must keep in mind. These tips will help you create some incredibly delicious apple delights.

Tips for Preparing and Using Apples in Recipes

1. Pick the right apples
When making apple recipes, it is crucial to choose the right type of apple. Different varieties of apples have different textures, flavors, and levels of sweetness. Some apples are better for cooking, while others are best eaten raw. As a general rule of thumb, it is best to choose apples that are firm, crisp, and slightly tart for cooking. Some of the best apple varieties for cooking include Granny Smith, Honeycrisp, Braeburn, and Rome apples.
2. Peel and core the apples correctly
When preparing the apples for your recipe, it is important to peel and core them correctly. For most apple-based dessert recipes, you will need to remove the skin and core of the apple. To do this, you can use a sharp knife or an apple corer. It is important to remove all the seeds and the tough core, as they can ruin the texture and taste of your dish.
3. Cut the apples into even-sized pieces
When cutting the apples for your recipe, try to make sure that they are all of similar size. This will help ensure that the apples cook evenly and that your dish tastes consistent. For most recipes, it is best to cut the apples into small, even-sized pieces that are roughly the same size.
4. Use the right cooking technique
Different apple recipes require different cooking techniques. For example, if you are making an apple pie, you will need to bake the apples in the oven. If you are making a caramelized apple dessert, you might need to sauté the apples in a pan. It is important to follow the instructions of your recipe carefully to ensure that you use the correct cooking technique.
5. Experiment with different spices and flavorings
Apples have a relatively mild and versatile flavor, which means that they work well with a variety of spices and flavorings. When making apple recipes, do not be afraid to experiment with different seasoning, herbs, and spices. For example, cinnamon is a classic spice that works particularly well with apples. Other popular flavorings to consider include nutmeg, cloves, and ginger.
6. Let the apples sit for a while before serving
After you have cooked your apple-based recipe, it is important to let the apples sit for a while before serving. This will allow the flavors to meld together and will help the apples become softer and more tender. Depending on the recipe, you may need to let the apples cool down completely or store them in the fridge or freezer.
7. Use different types of apples for different recipes
Different types of apples work better for different types of recipes. For example, firmer apples like Granny Smith or Honeycrisp are best for apple pies and tarts, while softer apples like McIntosh or Cortland are best for apple sauces and purees. If you are unsure which apple to use for your recipe, try experimenting with different varieties to find the one that works best for you.

Conclusion

If you want to create some truly delicious apple recipes, there are a few essential tips that you must keep in mind. Choosing the right apples, peeling and coring the apples correctly, cutting the apples into even-sized pieces, using the right cooking technique, experimenting with different spices and flavorings, letting the apples sit for a while before serving, and using different types of apples for different recipes are all key to making fantastic apple delights. Whether you are making an apple pie, caramelized apple dessert, or apple sauce, following these tips will help you make incredible dishes that are sure to delight your taste buds.
