Time 45m

Yield 4 servings

Number Of Ingredients 25

2 pounds new potatoes or baby Yukon gold potatoes
1/2 cup sour cream
2 tablespoons butter
3 strips par cooked bacon, crisped in microwave and chopped (recommended: Ready Crisp)
Salt and pepper
1 cup store bought apple sauce
1 (14 ounce) can whole berry cranberry sauce
2 slices whole grain bread
Butter
1 tablespoon extra-virgin olive oil, 1 turn of the pan
1 pound maple sausage, bulk or removed from large link casing
1 medium onion, chopped
2 celery ribs, chopped
2 teaspoons poultry seasoning
Salt and pepper
1 cup chicken stock or turkey broth
2 tablespoons butter
2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
2 cups chicken stock or turkey broth
1 teaspoon poultry seasoning
Salt
A few grinds black pepper
1 1/2 to 2 pounds turkey breast meat: roasted turkey breast or thick-cut deli turkey
4 slices whole grain bread
2 tablespoons chopped flat-leaf parsley or chopped chives, for garnish

Steps:

  • Preheat a medium skillet over medium high heat.
  • Place potatoes in a medium pot. Cut larger potatoes in half. Leave smaller baby potatoes whole. Cover potatoes with water and top with a lid. Place over high heat. When the water boils, salt water and cook potatoes with the lid off pot for 10 to 11 minutes, until tender.
  • Place a second low pot on the stove top over medium-high heat. Add apple sauce and canned cranberry sauce. Stir to combine and gently heat through, about 10 minutes.
  • Toast 2 slices whole grain bread and butter heavily, 1/2 tablespoon per slice. Chop into small cubes and reserve.
  • Add extra-virgin olive oil and sausage meat to hot skillet. Brown and crumble the sausage with a wooden spoon or heat safe spatula. Add onions and celery to the skillet then season with poultry seasoning and salt and pepper and cook 5 minutes. Add bread to the skillet and stir to combine. Dampen the stuffing with chicken stock and turn to combine. Turn off heat and cover pan loosely with foil to hold heat.
  • Preheat a second skillet over medium heat to prepare turkey and gravy.
  • Drain cooked potatoes and return to hot pot. Smash with sour cream, butter and crisped, chopped bacon. Season the smashed potatoes with salt and pepper. If they are too thick, thin them out with milk or a splash of broth.
  • Add 2 tablespoons butter to preheated skillet and melt it. Whisk in flour and cook 1 minute. Whisk in 2 cups stock or broth. Add the poultry seasoning, a pinch of salt and a few grinds of black pepper to the gravy. Allow it to thicken slightly.
  • Cut roasted turkey meat away from the breast bones of rotisserie turkey breast. If you are using deli turkey, remove from packaging and separate slices. Set turkey into gravy.
  • Place a bread slice on dinner plate. Use a large ice cream scoop to place a mound of stuffing on the bread. Place turkey on top of stuffing. Serve smashed potatoes and cranberries on the side. Spoon the extra gravy over potatoes and turkey sandwiches. Sprinkle the plates with chopped parsley or chives and serve.

DRIED CRANBERRY AND APPLE TURKEY STUFFING

Dried Cranberry and Apple Turkey Stuffing image

A recipe of my girlfriends, made at her house for a Christmas dinner a few years back...an excellent recipe for a stuffing, that is prepared to cook inside the turkey. Note cooking time depends on how long the turkey is cooked, I imagine that you could bake this outside the turkey also too. This recipe can be doubled if desired.

Making apple cranberry turkey stuffing recipes can add an extra layer of flavor to your Thanksgiving turkey. It's a classic dish that can be made in many ways, and the right recipe can be the difference between a delicious and poorly-tasting stuffing. In this article, we will share valuable tips for you to make the perfect apple cranberry turkey stuffing recipes. These tips will guide you through the process, and you can customize them depending on your preferences.

Choose the Right Bread

Choosing the right bread is critical when making apple cranberry turkey stuffing recipes. The bread should be slightly dry, so it doesn't turn to mush when mixed with the other ingredients. Some good options are French bread, sourdough, or whole wheat. The bread should be sliced into small cubes and left to dry for at least a day to absorb the flavors better.

Prepare the Ingredients

Once you've chosen the right bread, it's time to prepare the ingredients. Cut two apples and half a cup of cranberries into small pieces. You can also add celery, onions, garlic, or any other vegetables or fruits you like. Make sure to chop everything in similar sizes to ensure even cooking.

Add the Flavorful Herbs and Spices

Herbs and spices are essential in apple cranberry turkey stuffing recipes. They add depth to the dish and make it more flavorful. Common herbs used in stuffing are sage, thyme, and rosemary. Spices that go well with this recipe are cinnamon, nutmeg, and allspice.
Here are some tips on how to use herbs and spices in your recipe:
  • Use fresh herbs instead of dried for a more robust flavor.
  • Toast your spices before adding them to the stuffing to release their oils and flavors.
  • Season the stuffing with salt and pepper to taste.
  • Be careful not to overdo the spices, as they can overpower the other flavors.

Don't Forget the Liquid Ingredients

Liquid ingredients like chicken broth, apple cider, or white wine add moisture and flavor to the stuffing. You can use different ratios of broth and liquid depending on how moist you want your stuffing to be. Remember that the bread cubes will absorb the liquid while baking, so don't add too much.

Cooking the Stuffing

After you've mixed all the ingredients, it's time to bake the stuffing. Preheat the oven to 350°F and bake for 45 minutes to an hour. Some recipes will suggest covering with aluminum foil for the first half hour to keep it moist, and then uncover it to let it brown for the remaining time.
Here are some tips on how to cook your stuffing:
  • Make sure the stuffing is fully cooked by checking the center with a meat thermometer. It should read at least 165°F.
  • If the top isn't brown enough, put it under the broiler for a few minutes at the end.
  • If the stuffing is too dry, add more liquid or butter before baking.
  • If the stuffing is too moist, keep it in the oven for a few more minutes to let the liquid evaporate.

Conclusion

Making apple cranberry turkey stuffing recipes can be easy with the right ingredients, herbs, and spices. Use this guide to make the perfect Thanksgiving stuffing that will impress your guests with its flavor and texture. Customize the recipe to your liking, add your own favorite ingredients, and experiment with different herbs and spices. Have fun and enjoy the cooking process!
