In the fall I have alot of apples from my two apple trees. I am always on the look out for different recipes and I was looking for a recipe for apples other than a apple pie or crisp. Happened to find this one. I didn't know if the coconut and the apples would work but they sure do. Give it a taste.

Apple coconut crumble is a delicious dessert that combines the sweetness of apples with the nutty flavor of coconut. This dessert is easy to make and can be served hot or cold. In this article, we will share some valuable tips on how to make the perfect apple coconut crumble.

Choose the Right Apples

The type of apples you use in your apple coconut crumble will greatly affect the texture and flavor of your dish. It is best to use apples that are firm and slightly tart. Some good varieties of apples for crumbles are Granny Smith, Honeycrisp, and Braeburn.
Avoid Using Soft or Overripe Apples
Using soft or overripe apples in your crumble will result in a mushy texture that is not pleasant to eat. When selecting apples, make sure they are firm and have no bruises or soft spots.
Peel the Apples
Before you use the apples in your crumble, it is important to peel them. The skin of the apple can be tough and will not break down during the cooking process. Peeling the apples will result in a soft, tender texture.
Cut the Apples Into Even Pieces
When you are cutting the apples, make sure to cut them into even pieces. This will help them cook evenly and prevent some pieces from being overcooked while others are still undercooked.

Use Fresh Coconut

Using fresh coconut in your apple coconut crumble will give it a delicious nutty flavor and a slightly chewy texture. If you can't find fresh coconut, you can use unsweetened shredded coconut instead.
How to Crack a Coconut
Cracking a coconut can be intimidating, but it is actually quite easy. First, make a hole in one of the eyes of the coconut. Drain the coconut water into a bowl. Place the coconut on a hard surface and hit it with a hammer until it cracks open. Remove the flesh from the shell using a knife or a coconut scraper.
How to Grate Coconut
To grate fresh coconut, first, remove the brown skin from the flesh using a vegetable peeler or a knife. Then, use a box grater or a food processor to shred the coconut into small pieces.
How to Toast Coconut
To toast shredded coconut, spread it in a single layer on a baking sheet and bake in the oven at 350°F for 5-10 minutes or until golden brown. Be sure to keep an eye on it as it can burn quickly.

Make the Crumble Topping

The crumble topping is an important part of an apple coconut crumble. It should be buttery, crispy, and slightly sweet. Here's how to make the perfect crumble topping.
Use Cold Butter
Using cold butter is important when making a crumble topping. This will help the topping stay crispy and prevent it from becoming greasy. Cut the butter into small cubes before mixing it with the other ingredients.
Use a Mix of Flour, Sugar, and Oats
The dry ingredients for the crumble topping should be a mix of flour, sugar, and oats. The oats will add a nice crunch to the topping. You can also add chopped nuts like pecans or walnuts for extra flavor and texture.
Mix the Ingredients with Your Fingers
When making the crumble topping, it is best to mix the ingredients with your fingers until they resemble coarse crumbs. This will help distribute the butter evenly and create a crispy topping.
Sprinkle the Topping Evenly Over the Apples
After you have prepared the crumble topping, sprinkle it evenly over the apples. Don't press it down too hard as this will prevent it from getting crispy.

Bake the Crumble

Once you have prepared the apples and the crumble topping, it's time to bake the crumble.
Bake at 375°F
Bake the apple coconut crumble in the preheated oven at 375°F for about 35-40 minutes. The crumble should be golden brown on top and the apples should be tender.
Let it Cool Before Serving
After you take the crumble out of the oven, let it cool for a few minutes before serving. This will help the crumble topping set and make it easier to serve.
Serve with Ice Cream or Whipped Cream
Apple coconut crumble is delicious on its own but serving it with a scoop of vanilla ice cream or a dollop of whipped cream can take it to the next level. The creamy texture of the ice cream or whipped cream pairs perfectly with the crunchy crumble and the tender apples.

Conclusion

Apple coconut crumble is a simple yet delicious dessert that is perfect for any occasion. By following these valuable tips, you can make the perfect apple coconut crumble with a tender apple filling, a crunchy crumble topping, and a nutty coconut flavor. Serve it with your favorite ice cream or whipped cream for a delightful dessert that everyone will love.
