APPLE CINNAMON WAFFLES

Apple Cinnamon Waffles image

I just purchased a new waffle iron and am on a search for awesome waffle recipes. This is one I found on Mr.Breakfast.com. I hope you enjoy it as much as my family did. Any left over waffles would freeze well (OAMC). NOTE: You can also try adding different fruits and spices instead of apple and cinnamon. I added a couple fistfuls of semi-sweet chocolate chips to the batter and the grandkids flipped over them.

Apple cinnamon waffles are a delicious and comforting breakfast dish that combines the sweetness of apples with the warmth of cinnamon. This recipe involves adding fresh apple slices and cinnamon to the waffle batter, resulting in a fluffy and flavorful alternative to traditional waffles. In this article, we will explore the benefits of adding apple and cinnamon to your breakfast, discuss the essential ingredients and equipment needed to make apple cinnamon waffles, and provide a step-by-step guide on how to make them.

The Benefits of Adding Apple and Cinnamon to Your Breakfast

Both apples and cinnamon offer many benefits for your health as well as your taste buds. Apples are rich in dietary fiber, vitamins, and minerals like potassium and vitamin C. Eating apples regularly can help improve digestion, reduce inflammation, and lower the risk of chronic diseases like heart disease and diabetes. Cinnamon, on the other hand, has anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties that can help boost immunity, lower blood sugar levels, and improve cognitive function. When combined in waffles, apples and cinnamon create a sweet and spicy aroma that can lift your mood and satisfy your cravings. The sweet-tart flavor of the apples pairs well with the warm and woody taste of cinnamon, making apple cinnamon waffles a delicious and nourishing breakfast option.

Essential Ingredients and Equipment

To make apple cinnamon waffles, you will need the following ingredients:
  • 2 cups of all-purpose flour
  • 1 tablespoon of baking powder
  • 1 tablespoon of sugar
  • 1 teaspoon of salt
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 and 3/4 cups of milk
  • 1/3 cup of melted butter
  • 1 medium-sized apple, peeled and sliced
  • 1 teaspoon of ground cinnamon
You will also need basic kitchen tools and equipment, including:
  • A waffle iron
  • A mixing bowl
  • A whisk or fork
  • A spatula
  • A measuring cup
  • A measuring spoon

How to Make Apple Cinnamon Waffles

Follow these step-by-step instructions to make apple cinnamon waffles:
  1. Preheat your waffle iron according to the manufacturer's instructions.
  2. In a mixing bowl, combine the flour, baking powder, sugar, and salt.
  3. In a separate bowl, beat the eggs and whisk in the milk and melted butter.
  4. Pour the liquid mixture into the dry ingredients and stir until just combined. Make sure not to over-mix as it can result in tough waffles.
  5. Gently fold in the sliced apples and cinnamon into the batter.
  6. Using a measuring cup or ladle, pour the batter onto the hot waffle iron, spreading it evenly. Cook for 3-5 minutes, or until the waffles are golden brown and crispy.
  7. Remove the waffles from the iron using a spatula and repeat the process until all the batter is used up.
  8. Serve the apple cinnamon waffles warm with maple syrup, whipped cream, or any other toppings of your choice.
Tips and Tricks
  • Make sure to slice the apples thinly and evenly so that they cook through in the waffles.
  • If you don't have a waffle iron, you can also make apple cinnamon pancakes using the same batter and cooking them on a griddle or non-stick pan.
  • If you prefer your waffles to have a crispy exterior, try using buttermilk instead of regular milk in the recipe. The acidity in the buttermilk will help create a more golden and crunchy texture.
  • You can also add other spices like nutmeg, ginger, or cardamom to the batter for an extra flavor boost.
  • If you have leftover waffles, you can freeze them in an airtight container for up to 3 months. Just pop them in the toaster or oven to reheat them whenever you want a quick and tasty breakfast.

Conclusion

Apple cinnamon waffles are a delightful and wholesome breakfast treat that can brighten up your mornings and satisfy your sweet tooth. With the right ingredients and equipment, you can easily make these fluffy and fragrant waffles at home and customize them to your liking. Whether you serve them with maple syrup, whipped cream, or a dollop of yogurt, apple cinnamon waffles are sure to become a beloved favorite in your breakfast repertoire.
Waffles are undoubtedly one of the most popular breakfast dishes in many households. Apple cinnamon waffles are a great way to add a seasonal twist to your waffle recipe. They combine the warm flavors of cinnamon with the sweetness of apples in one delicious breakfast treat. In this article, we will discuss some valuable tips for making the perfect apple cinnamon waffles.

Picking the Right Apples

The first step in making apple cinnamon waffles is choosing the right apples. Not all apples are created equal, and different types of apples will yield different results in your recipe. For apple cinnamon waffles, it's best to choose a variety of apple that's firm and slightly tart. Some good options include Honeycrisp, Granny Smith, or Braeburn apples. These apples will hold up well during baking and bring a nice balance to the sweetness of the waffles.

Preparing the Apples

Once you've chosen the right apples for your recipe, it's important to prepare them properly. You'll want to peel and dice the apples into small, bite-sized pieces. If you leave the skin on, it can be tough and unpleasant to eat. You can also add spices like cinnamon and nutmeg to the apples for added flavor. Cook the apples in a saucepan over medium heat until they're soft and tender.

Choosing the Right Waffle Iron

The choice of waffle iron is also important in making apple cinnamon waffles. The right waffle iron will ensure that your waffles are cooked evenly and turn out crispy on the outside and fluffy on the inside. You can choose a waffle iron with a non-stick surface, which will make it easy to remove the waffles without sticking. You can also choose a waffle iron with adjustable temperature control, which will allow you to control the cooking temperature and prevent your waffles from burning.

Preheating the Waffle Iron

Before you start making your apple cinnamon waffles, it's important to preheat your waffle iron. This will ensure that your waffles cook evenly and adhere to the waffle iron's surface. You can preheat your waffle iron for about 5 minutes before you start cooking. When the waffle iron is ready, the indicator light will turn on or off to signal that it's time to start cooking.

Using the Right Batter

The right batter is crucial in making apple cinnamon waffles. A good batter should have a good balance of flour, eggs, milk, and leavening agents like baking powder and baking soda. You can add spices like cinnamon and nutmeg to the batter for added flavor. You can also use a mix of whole wheat flour and all-purpose flour for a healthier option.

Adding the Apples to the Batter

Once you have your batter ready, it's time to add the cooked apples to the mix. You can mix the apples into the batter gently, being careful not to overmix. Overmixing can cause the waffles to become tough and dense. You can also sprinkle some diced apples on top of the batter before closing the waffle iron to get some extra apple flavor.

Cooking the Waffles

When you're ready to cook your apple cinnamon waffles, it's important to follow the instructions on your waffle iron. Generally, you'll want to pour about a quarter cup of batter onto the center of the waffle iron and then close the lid. Cook the waffles for about 3-5 minutes, or until they're golden brown and crispy on the outside. You can use a fork or tongs to remove the waffles from the waffle iron.

Serving the Waffles

Once your apple cinnamon waffles are ready, it's time to serve them. You can top your waffles with whipped cream, maple syrup, honey, or any other toppings you like. Some other great toppings for apple cinnamon waffles include caramel sauce, chopped nuts, or a dusting of cinnamon sugar. You can also serve your waffles with a side of fruit, bacon, or sausage for a complete breakfast.

Cleanup

After you've finished making your apple cinnamon waffles, it's important to clean up properly. Waffle irons can be difficult to clean, so it's important to follow the manufacturer's instructions carefully. You can use a soft-bristle brush to remove any stuck-on batter or debris. You can also wipe down the waffle iron with a damp cloth or sponge to remove any excess batter or grease.

Conclusion

Apple cinnamon waffles are a delicious breakfast treat that everyone in your family will love. With these valuable tips, you can make the perfect apple cinnamon waffles every time. Remember to choose the right apples, prepare them properly, use the right waffle iron and batter, and cook the waffles evenly. With the right toppings and a side of your favorite breakfast meat, you'll have a complete breakfast that's sure to impress.
