CARAMEL APPLE CRISP BITES RECIPE - (4.2/5)

Caramel Apple Crisp Bites Recipe - (4.2/5) image

Provided by smclane

Number Of Ingredients 10

2 cup graham cracker crumbs (I used store bought in a can. I find these to work the best)
12 tablespoons butter, melted
1/2 cup powdered sugar
4 cups peeled, cored and chopped apples (we used golden delicious)
1/3 cup sugar
1/4 cup brown sugar
2 1/4 tablespoons flour
1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
Caramel topping (store bought!)

Steps:

  • 1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees 2. Grease pan with non-stick butter spray 3. Melt butter 4. In a medium size bowl mix graham cracker crumbs, powdered sugar and butter with a spoon (slowly add the butter and evenly distribute Some people have found the crust recipe to work perfect, while some others found the 12 tablespoons of butter was way to much and the butter started to pool - you may want to start by using 1/2 C butter (1 stick vs. 1 1/2 sticks, or 12 T) Melt the butter and add slowly to the crumbs, a little bit at a time, making sure it's not too wet. You can always add more or save the leftover butter for later. You want a soft dough that sticks together slightly when you try to form a ball, not a wet dough. 5. Evenly distribute mixture to the 24 mini muffin cups. Press along the bottom and sides to make a "cup" 6. Bake for 5 minutes and let cool completely 7. Chop the apples into little pieces - I used a mini food processor. Don't puree, just finely chop 8. Mix apples, sugar, brown sugar, flour, cinnamon and nutmeg in a bowl 9. Bake in a baking dish for 15 minutes on 375 degrees, until apples are slightly softened 10. Scoop a teaspoon or so of the apple mix and place on top of the graham cracker crust cups (while still in the muffin pan) 11. Sprinkle any extra graham cracker on top of the apples (I had some left over!) 12. Bake for 5 minutes on 350 13. Let cool completely 14. Use a knife to loosen from pan and they should pop right out 15. Drizzle with caramel topping

APPLE, FONTINA AND CARAMELIZED ONIONS FILO BITES

Apple, Fontina and Caramelized Onions Filo Bites image

A delicious and totally make-ahead appetizer that is great for your holiday entertaining

Provided by Marilena Leavitt

Categories     Appetizer

Time 45m

Yield 24

Number Of Ingredients 10

2 TBSP. extra virgin olive oil
1 TBSP. butter
2 large onions, chopped
½ tsp. sea salt
2 med. Honey Crisp apples
1 tsp. ground cinnamon
2 TBSP. golden brown sugar
4 oz. Italian Fontina (or Gruyère) cheese, shredded
½ package FILLO FACTORY filo dough, defrosted & at room temperature
¼-⅓ cup butter for the filo, melted

Steps:

  • Heat a large skillet over medium-high heat and add the olive oil and the butter. Once the butter melts add the onions. Sauté the onions, stirring occasionally, until they are light golden brown. Add the salt and continue to cook and stir until the onions are well caramelized, about 20 minutes.
  • While the onions sauté, core and dice the apples (without peeling them). Combine the diced apples, cinnamon, and sugar in a bowl.
  • Add the apples to the skillet with the onions and sauté until the apples just begin to soften. Do not overcook. Remove from heat and set aside.
  • Heat the oven to 350°F. Lightly spray two mini muffin tins with oil and set them aside.
  • Unroll the 14"x18" package of filo and, with a sharp knife, cut it in half length-wise, leaving you with two stacks of 14"x9" sheets of filo. You will only need one of the stacks, so roll up the other, wrap it tightly with plastic wrap, and return to the refrigerator.
  • Place one sheet of filo on a clean surface with the longest side in front of you. Brush with some of the melted butter to coat. Place a second sheet of filo on top of the first and butter it again. After that, repeat with a third sheet and then a fourth (keep the rest of the filo covered while you work so it won't dry out.). Cut the stack of four filo sheets into 3 strips horizontally. Then, cut the fillo strips 4 times vertically, forming 12 squares, each about 3"x3". Lift each square of filo and gently place in a mini muffin tin hole. Repeat with the rest of the squares. Place a heaping spoonful of the onion and apple filling and top with some grated cheese. Repeat with a second stack of four filo sheets and fill the second mini muffin tin.
  • Bake for about 15 minutes or until the cheese is melted. Remove from the oven. Let cool slightly and then lift the fillo nests onto a serving platter. Serve at once.

Apple bites recipes have become increasingly popular in recent years, mainly due to their versatility and simplicity. Whether you are looking for a healthy snack or a delicious appetizer, apple bites are an excellent option. However, creating the perfect apple bite recipe requires some knowledge and expertise. In this article, we will provide you with valuable tips on how to make the perfect apple bite recipe.

Tips for choosing the right apples

Choosing the right apples is crucial to the success of your apple bite recipe. When selecting apples, it is important to consider the sweetness, texture, and acidity of the fruit. Here are a few tips to help you choose the perfect apples:

1. Choose sweet apples

Sweet apples are essential for making apple bites. They are perfect for balancing the flavors in your recipe and add a natural sweetness to the dish. The best sweet apples for apple bites are Honeycrisp, Gala, and Fuji.

2. Choose crisp apples

The texture of the apple is also important when making apple bites. Crisp apples hold up better when sliced and are easier to handle. Some of the best crisp apples for apple bites are Granny Smith, Braeburn, and Pink Lady.

3. Choose tart apples

Acidic or tart apples can add a nice tangy flavor to your recipe. If you prefer a slightly tart apple bite, consider using apples such as Granny Smith, Jonathan, or McIntosh.

Tips for preparing the apples

Preparing the apples properly is key to making the perfect apple bite recipe. Here are a few tips to help you prepare the apples:

1. Wash the apples

Before cutting the apples, it is important to wash them thoroughly. Apples can harbor bacteria and pesticides that can cause illness if consumed. Use cool running water and a clean brush to scrub the skin of the apple. Make sure to dry the apples afterwards.

2. Cut the apples uniformly

Uniformly sliced apples ensure that each bite contains the same amount of fruit and looks aesthetically pleasing. Use a sharp knife or an apple corer to remove the core and slice the apples into thin wedges or rounds.

3. Toss the apples with lemon juice

Lemon juice can be used to prevent the apples from turning brown due to oxidation. Toss the sliced apples in a bowl with a small amount of fresh lemon juice to keep them looking fresh and vibrant.

Tips for adding flavor to your apple bites

Adding flavors to your apple bites can take them from ordinary to extraordinary. Here are a few tips for adding flavor to your apple bites:

1. Use spices

Spices can add depth and complexity to the flavors of your apple bites. Cinnamon, nutmeg, and clove are perfect spices to use in apple bite recipes.

2. Add a sweetener

If you prefer sweeter apple bites, consider adding a natural sweetener such as honey, agave, or maple syrup.

3. Use different cheeses

Cheese is a great addition to apple bite recipes. You can use different types of cheese such as cheddar, brie, or blue cheese to add a unique flavor to your recipe.

Tips for assembling the apple bites

Assembling the apple bites is the final step in making the perfect apple bite recipe. Here are a few tips to help you assemble your apple bites:

1. Use toothpicks or skewers

To make your apple bites easier to handle, use toothpicks or small skewers to hold the ingredients together.

2. Layer the ingredients

Layering the ingredients can make a big difference in the final product. Start with the apple slice, then add the cheese, nuts, or sweetener, and top it off with another apple slice. This layering technique ensures that each bite contains all of the ingredients.

3. Decorate the apple bites

For a more visually appealing apple bite recipe, you can decorate the apple bites with chopped nuts, fresh herbs, or edible flowers.

Conclusion

Apple bites are a delicious and healthy snack that you can easily make at home. By following these tips for selecting, preparing, adding flavors, and assembling the ingredients, you can create the perfect apple bite recipe that will impress your friends and family.
