MY HONEY'S APPLE AND APRICOT PIE

My Honey's Apple and Apricot Pie image

This recipe makes two wonderfully delicious pies which is great for OAMC. If you want less crumble topping, just double the pie ingredients, and you can make 4 lucious pies. You can freeze them just before baking to enjoy another time, (Just be sure to increase the cook time to 50-55 min for a frozen pie). The crumbled topping stores well in the freezer so you could even make one pie at a time if that is your choosing. We adapted this from Chef #422893's wonderful Recipe #255771 making it lighter (reducing down the calories, fat, and carbs) and revised it into a pie form. We have made this using Sunmaid dried fruit bits in place of the apricots (which requires no re-hydration). Enjoy. :)

If you love baked desserts and prefer the healthier twist, you can try making an apple apricot honey crumble. Crumbles are easy to make and can be served as a dessert or snack. They are a great way to use up leftover fruit and can be customized to your preference. In this article, we look at some valuable tips for making an apple apricot honey crumble recipe that is sure to impress.

Tip 1: Choose the right apples

Choosing the right apples for your crumble is crucial. Tart apples like Granny Smith or Rome apples work best as they hold their shape while baking and don't turn to mush. If you prefer sweeter apples, you can use Honeycrisp or Fujis. You can also use a combination of apples to enhance the flavor of your crumble.

Tip 2: Use fresh apricots

Fresh apricots are essential in creating a delectable apple apricot honey crumble. You can find fresh apricots in most grocery stores during the summer months. If fresh apricots are unavailable, you can use canned apricots, but they tend to be sweeter and have a softer texture.

Tip 3: Make your own crumble topping

Making your own crumble topping is a game-changer. It's easy to make and tastes better than store-bought. You can use any combination of flour, oats, brown sugar, and butter to make your own crumble topping. Add some cinnamon and nutmeg for added flavor. Mix the ingredients together with your hands until it forms a crumbly texture.

Tip 4: Add honey for sweetness

Adding honey to your crumble topping gives it a natural sweetness and a golden color. Drizzle honey over the apples and apricots before adding the crumble topping. You can also mix a tablespoon of honey with the crumble topping to enhance the flavor.

Tip 5: Precook the apples and apricots

Precooking the apples and apricots helps them soften and release their juices. You can cook them in a saucepan with some honey, cinnamon, and a tablespoon of water until they are slightly tender. This step helps to prevent the crumble from turning out dry and hard.

Tip 6: Use a baking dish that's not too deep

Using a shallow baking dish helps the crumble to cook evenly and allows the crumble topping to form a crust. A deep baking dish can result in a soggy crumble without a crispy top.

Tip 7: Bake the crumble at the right temperature

Baking the crumble at 375°F for 40-45 minutes ensures that the crumble cooks through and the top forms a crispy crust. You can check if the crumble is done by inserting a toothpick in the center, and it should come out clean.

Tip 8: Let the crumble cool before serving

Allowing the crumble to cool for 15-20 minutes before serving allows the juices to distribute evenly and the topping to set. Serve with whipped cream or ice cream for an indulgent dessert.
Conclusion
Making an apple apricot honey crumble is easy with these valuable tips. Choosing the right apples, using fresh apricots, making your own crumble topping, adding honey for sweetness, precooking the fruit, using a shallow baking dish, baking at the right temperature, and letting the crumble cool before serving are essential in creating the perfect crumble. With these tips, you can create a delicious dessert that everyone will love.
