Time 30m

Number Of Ingredients 5

1 apple, cored and sliced into thin wedges (about 1/4 inch thick) (Note 1)
2 tablespoon unsalted butter, softened
1/4 cup brown sugar
2 teaspoon flour ((or as needed))
1/2 pound puff pastry dough (one sheet), thawed ((~230 g))

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 400F
  • PREPARE TART: Spread softened butter on an 8 inch pie dish. Sprinkle brown sugar to cover the bottom. Arrange apples, overlapping, around the outer edge, then the inner edge, covering the entire bottom of the pie plate. Sprinkle 2 teaspoons flour over apples to help absorb the juices (and avoid a soggy crust). Sprinkle with cinnamon if desired.
  • PREPARE CRUST: The crust will start on the top and end up on the bottom when tart is inverted onto a plate. Unfold dough or roll to 1/8 inch. Cut out round piece of dough to fit pie dish. (I lay inverted pie dish on top of dough and cut around it). You will have leftover dough. Don't fuss - you can trim it after. Lay dough on top of apples and tuck the edges downward all around inside edge of pie plate.
  • BAKE AND SERVE: Bake tart for 23 minutes or until crispy and deep golden brown. Remove from oven. Invert onto a plate. Serve warm with ice cream or whipped cream.

Time 1h

Yield 8 servings

Number Of Ingredients 6

1 package (2 sheets) frozen puff pastry, defrosted
4 small (6 ounce) Granny Smith apples
3/4 cup sugar
6 tablespoons (3/4 stick) cold unsalted butter, small-diced
3/4 cup apricot jelly or warm sieved apricot jam
3 tablespoons Calvados, rum, or water

Steps:

  • Preheat the oven to 400 degrees. Line 2 sheet pans with parchment paper.
  • Cut each sheet of puff pastry into 4 squares. Divide the pastry between the prepared sheet pans and refrigerate while you prepare the apples.
  • Peel the apples and cut them in half through the stem. Remove the stems and cores with a sharp knife and a melon baller. Slice the apples crosswise in 1/4-inch-thick slices. Place overlapping slices of apples diagonally across the pastry and place one slice of apple on each side of the arranged slices. Sprinkle the apples evenly with the sugar and dot them with the butter.
  • Bake for 40 minutes, until the pastry is browned and the edges of the apples start to brown. Don't worry! The apple juices will burn in the pan but the tarts will be fine! When the tarts are done, heat the apricot jelly together with the Calvados until bubbly and brush the apples and pastry completely with the jelly mixture. Loosen the tarts with a metal spatula so they don't stick to the paper. Allow to cool and serve warm or at room temperature.

Yield Serves 8

Number Of Ingredients 9

1 sheet frozen puff pasty, thawed
All-purpose flour (for surface)
4 tablespoons peanut or other nut butter
4 tablespoons apple butter
1 pound firm baking apples (about 2 large), peeled, cored, sliced into 1/2-inch wedges
1/4 cup chopped salted, roasted peanuts or other nut
2 tablespoons unsalted butter, cut into pieces
Sugar (for sprinkling)
1 large egg

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 425°F. Roll out puff pastry on a lightly floured surface into a long rectangle. Cut in half crosswise (halves should be almost square). Transfer to a parchment-lined rimmed baking sheet; prick with a fork in several places. Using a small offset spatula, spread 2 Tbsp. peanut butter in the center of each half to make a 5" round, then spread 2 Tbsp. apple butter over top of each nut-butter round. Pile up apples in the center of each puff pastry and top with peanuts. Dot fruit with butter and sprinkle with sugar.
  • Beat egg and 1 tsp. water in a small bowl, then brush pastry with egg wash and fold up edges around apples, leaving the center open. Press along the folded edges to lightly seal. Brush outside of pastry with egg wash and sprinkle with more sugar. Let chill in freezer 10 minutes.
  • Bake tarts until puff pastry is golden, 15-20 minutes. Reduce oven temperature to 350°F and continue to bake until pastry is deep golden brown and apples are tender, 20-25 minutes.

All-purpose flour, for dusting
1 sheet (1/2 a 17.3-ounce package) all-butter frozen puff pastry, thawed
3 cups fruit, nuts and/or cheese (ideal for roasting)
3 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
3 tablespoons brown sugar
1/2 teaspoon cinnamon or other spices

Steps:

  • Preheat the oven to 400 degrees F. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or grease with nonstick cooking spray.;
  • Sprinkle the cutting board with flour. Roll-out the creases.;
  • Unfold the pastry onto parchment paper. Using a fork, pierce a 1/2-inch border around the edge of the puff pastry. Prick the center of the pastry as well, about 10 times all over.
  • Arrange the fruit, nuts, and cheese on top of the pastry in a uniform manner, avoiding the border. Brush the fruit with the melted butter and top with the cinnamon and sugar. Bake 15 minutes, until the pastry is golden brown and beginning to puff.
  • If desired, brush the honey over the fruit and bake for an additional 5 minutes. Serve warm with fresh whipped cream or vanilla ice cream.
  • Puff Pastry Variations:
  • Apricot Plum Tart: Cut 2 plums and apricots into 1/4-inch thick slices. Arrange on top of puff pastry and brush with melted apricot preserves rather than honey.

When the pastry finishes, brush the pastry with the glaze.
  • Pear, Pecan and Blue Cheese Tart: Slice 3 cups Bartlett pears and place on the puff pastry. Top with 1/2 cup chopped pecans. After brushing on the honey, top with 1/3 cup blue cheese crumbles.

Apple and nut butter puff pastry tarts are a delectable treat that has gained popularity in recent years due to their combination of wholesome fruit and smooth, creamy nut butter. These tarts are simple to make and offer a satisfying blend of textures and flavors.

Ingredients

- Puff pastry sheets - Apples (sliced) - Nut butter (such as peanut butter, almond butter, or cashew butter) - Honey - Cinnamon - Sugar - Lemon juice - Egg wash (for the pastry)

Preparation

The preparation of apple and nut butter puff pastry tarts is quite straightforward. To begin, defrost the puff pastry sheets according to the package instructions. Once the sheets are ready, gently roll out the pastry dough onto a floured surface until it is a thin, rectangular shape. Using a sharp knife, cut the pastry into smaller, individual-sized pieces. These can be round, rectangular or square depending on your personal preference. Once cut, use a fork to prick the pastry all over to prevent it from puffing up too much during baking. The next step is to prepare the filling. Start with washing and thinly slicing the apples. Drizzle the sliced apples with some lemon juice to prevent browning. In a separate bowl, mix the nut butter, honey, cinnamon and sugar until the mixture is creamy and smooth.

Assembly

To assemble the tarts, spread a generous scoop of the nut butter mixture onto the center of each pastry piece. Then layer the sliced apples on top of the nut butter mixture to create a tightly packed mound. For an extra bit of sweetness, you can also drizzle some honey over the apple-filled tarts before baking. Finally, apply an egg wash to the edges of the pastry to ensure a beautiful golden brown color after baking.

Baking

Preheat the oven to 375°F and place the assembled tarts onto a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Bake for 15 to 20 minutes or until the edges of the pastry are golden brown and the apples are cooked through. Once finished, remove the tarts from the oven and let them cool on a wire rack for a few minutes. Enjoy the tarts warm with a scoop of ice cream or a dollop of whipped cream on top.

Conclusion

Apple and nut butter puff pastry tarts are the perfect combination of sweet and savory. They are also an excellent way to incorporate more fruits into your diet while enjoying a delicious dessert. Try out this simple recipe at home to impress your guests or savor a flavorful treat on your own!
Apple and nut butter puff pastry tarts are a delectable dessert that can be prepared in a jiffy. These tarts are perfect for entertaining guests or simply for indulging in a sweet treat. The puff pastry base of the tart is filled with a mixture of sweetened apple chunks and nut butter, which is then baked until golden brown. In this article, we will discuss valuable tips for making apple and nut butter puff pastry tarts.

Tip 1: Choose the Right Type of Puff Pastry

One of the key components of a good apple and nut butter puff pastry tart is the puff pastry itself. It is important to choose the right type of puff pastry to ensure that it bakes properly and has the desired texture. There are two main types of puff pastry available – regular puff pastry and all-butter puff pastry. While regular puff pastry is made with vegetable fat, all-butter puff pastry is made with butter. The latter is more expensive, but it has a richer flavor and flakier texture. Therefore, it is recommended to use all-butter puff pastry for apple and nut butter puff pastry tarts.

Tip 2: Keep the Ingredients and Equipment Cold

To ensure that the puff pastry tarts turn out well, it is important to keep the ingredients and equipment cold. This is because puff pastry relies on the butter in it to create layers of flaky pastry. If the butter gets too warm, it will melt and the pastry will not rise properly. Therefore, it is recommended to chill the pastry in the refrigerator for at least 30 minutes before using it. Similarly, keep the apple chunks and nut butter in the refrigerator until needed. Chill the rolling pin and pastry cutter in the refrigerator as well.

Tip 3: Season the Apples

The apple filling is an important part of the puff pastry tarts. The sweetness of the apples should be balanced with a hint of tartness and warmth from spices. Sprinkle the apple chunks with some sugar, cinnamon, and a pinch of nutmeg. This will enhance the flavor of the apples and add depth to the tart.

Tip 4: Use a Sharp Pastry Cutter

Cutting the puff pastry into the desired shape can be challenging if the pastry cutter is not sharp enough. A dull cutter will compress the layers of pastry, which will prevent it from puffing up properly. To ensure that the puff pastry tarts rise properly, use a sharp pastry cutter to cut the pastry into circles or squares.

Tip 5: Make Sure the Puff Pastry is Cold Before Baking

Once the puff pastry tarts have been assembled, it is important to chill them in the refrigerator for at least 30 minutes before baking. This will ensure that the butter in the pastry stays cold and does not melt too quickly in the oven. A chilled pastry will result in a flakier texture and a higher rise.

Tip 6: Brush the Pastry with Egg Wash

Before baking the puff pastry tarts, brush them with a beaten egg. This will give the pastry a golden brown color and a shiny finish. It will also help the pastry to rise and puff up evenly. Make sure to brush only the top of the pastry with the egg wash and not the sides, as this will prevent the pastry from rising properly.

Tip 7: Let the Tarts Cool Before Serving

Once the puff pastry tarts have been baked, let them cool for a few minutes before serving. This will allow the filling to set and the pastry to cool and become crisp. If the tarts are still hot when served, the filling may run and the pastry may be too soft.

Conclusion

Making apple and nut butter puff pastry tarts can be a simple and enjoyable process, provided the right tips are followed. Choosing the right type of puff pastry, keeping the ingredients and equipment cold, seasoning the apples, using a sharp pastry cutter, chilling the pastry before baking, brushing the pastry with egg wash, and letting the tarts cool before serving are all important tips that will help to ensure that the tarts turn out perfectly. By following these tips, you can make delicious apple and nut butter puff pastry tarts that are sure to impress your guests.
