Time 30m

Yield 4

Number Of Ingredients 10

1 (8 ounce) package angel hair pasta
1 tablespoon olive oil
1 tablespoon butter
16 ounces sliced fresh mushrooms
salt and ground black pepper to taste
1 tablespoon minced garlic
1 cup heavy whipping cream
1 small lemon, zested and juiced
⅓ cup grated Parmesan cheese, or more to taste
1 tablespoon minced fresh parsley

Steps:

  • Bring a large pot of lightly salted water to a boil. Cook angel hair pasta in the boiling water, stirring occasionally, until tender yet firm to the bite, 4 to 5 minutes. Drain, reserving 1 cup of pasta water.
  • Meanwhile, heat oil and butter in a large nonstick skillet over medium heat. Saute mushrooms in the pan, adjusting heat as necessary, until golden brown, tender, and they have released their moisture. Season mushrooms with salt and pepper while cooking. Add garlic and saute until fragrant, about 1 minute.
  • Pour in heavy cream and bring to a simmer until slightly thickened, 2 to 3 minutes. Add in lemon zest and juice. Stir to combine. Stir in 1/3 cup Parmesan cheese until combined and melted in. Taste and adjust salt and pepper to your preference.
  • Add in the cooked pasta and toss in the sauce. Add in some of the reserved pasta water if needed, a little at a time, to thin the sauce so that it coats and sticks to the pasta without being too thick or sticky. It should be a nice creamy consistency.
  • Serve pasta with a sprinkling of minced parsley and an additional sprinkling of Parmesan cheese, if desired.

The pasta strands are thin and delicate, allowing the creamy mushroom sauce to coat each strand perfectly. Here are some valuable tips to make your angel hair pasta with creamy mushroom sauce recipe a success.

Tips for Cooking Angel Hair Pasta

1. Use plenty of water
When cooking angel hair pasta, it's important to use plenty of water. For every 4 ounces of pasta, use at least 4 to 6 quarts of water. This will help prevent the pasta from sticking together and ensure that it cooks evenly.
2. Add salt to the water
Before you add the pasta to the boiling water, make sure to add salt. Add about 1 teaspoon of salt for every quart of water. This will add flavor to the pasta as it cooks.
3. Don't overcook the pasta
Angel hair pasta cooks quickly, usually in about 4 to 5 minutes. It's important not to overcook the pasta, or it will become mushy and lose its delicate texture.
4. Reserve some pasta water
Before you drain the pasta, make sure to reserve some of the pasta water. This starchy water can be used to thicken the sauce later on.

Tips for Making Creamy Mushroom Sauce

1. Use fresh mushrooms
To make a creamy mushroom sauce, it's important to use fresh mushrooms. Fresh mushrooms have a richer flavor and a meatier texture than canned mushrooms.
2. Don't overcrowd the pan
When sautéing mushrooms, it's important not to overcrowd the pan. Overcrowding can cause the mushrooms to release too much moisture, which can prevent them from browning properly. Sauté the mushrooms in batches if necessary.
3. Use heavy cream
To make a creamy mushroom sauce, it's important to use heavy cream. Heavy cream has a higher fat content than half-and-half or milk, which gives the sauce a richer and creamier texture.
4. Thicken the sauce with pasta water
To thicken the sauce, you can use the reserved pasta water. Add a small amount of the pasta water to the pan after adding the cream and allow it to simmer until the sauce thickens to the desired consistency.

Tips for Serving Angel Hair Pasta with Creamy Mushroom Sauce

1. Toss the pasta with the sauce
Before serving, toss the cooked pasta with the creamy mushroom sauce. This will ensure that the sauce is evenly distributed and coats each strand of pasta.
2. Garnish with fresh herbs
To add some color and flavor to the dish, garnish the pasta with fresh herbs such as parsley or basil. This will give the dish a fresh and vibrant taste.
3. Serve with crusty bread
To complete the meal, serve the pasta with crusty bread. The bread can be used to mop up any leftover sauce and adds a nice texture to the dish.
4. Pair with a light white wine
Angel hair pasta with creamy mushroom sauce pairs well with a light white wine such as Pinot Grigio or Sauvignon Blanc. These wines have a crisp and refreshing taste and won't overpower the delicate flavors of the pasta and sauce.

Conclusion

Angel hair pasta with creamy mushroom sauce is a delicious and easy-to-make recipe that requires few ingredients and minimal effort. Our valuable tips for cooking the pasta, making the sauce, and serving the dish will help you create a perfect plate of pasta every time. Experiment with different types of mushrooms and herbs to create your own unique version of this classic dish.
