Categories     dessert

Time 1h40m

Yield 8 servings

Number Of Ingredients 8

5 cups fresh strawberries, hulled and sliced, plus a few whole, for garnish
One 6-ounce container blueberries
One 6-ounce container raspberries
1/4 cup granulated sugar
Juice 1/2 orange
4 cups low-fat 2-percent Greek yogurt
1/4 cup honey
One 17-ounce store-bought angel food cake

Steps:

  • Add the berries to a bowl along with the sugar and orange juice. Let sit at room temperature for 15 to 20 minutes, until juicy.
  • Meanwhile, add the yogurt and honey to a bowl. Stir with a spoon to mix in the honey and smooth out so the mixture will be more spreadable.
  • Cut the angel food cake into large chunks using a serrated knife, and add about one-third of the cake to the bottom of a medium trifle dish. Add a layer of the syrupy berries and then a layer of yogurt, reserving a few spoonfuls of yogurt for the end. Repeat the layers until you have no more remaining ingredients. Finish the top with the few spoonfuls of yogurt in the center and the fresh, whole strawberries.
  • Cover with plastic wrap, and refrigerate until chilled, at least 1 hour and up to overnight.

ANGEL FOOD TRIFLE

A low-fat, low-sugar trifle that the whole family will love! I find that the pudding is usually set by the time I am done adding the other layers so it can be eaten right away. If not, chill in the fridge until the pudding is set. Keep refrigerated (especially if it is warm.)

In this article, we will explore some of the most valuable tips to keep in mind when making angel food trifle recipes.

Tips for Making Angel Food Trifle Recipes

Tip #1: Choose the Right Ingredients
One of the most important tips for making angel food trifle recipes is to choose the right ingredients. This means using high-quality ingredients that are fresh and flavorful. When it comes to the angel food cake, you can either make it yourself or purchase a pre-made cake from a bakery. If you choose to make the cake yourself, be sure to follow the recipe carefully and use high-quality ingredients like fresh eggs and pure vanilla extract. For the whipped cream, it is important to use heavy cream that is fresh and cold. This will ensure that the cream whips up properly and has a light and fluffy texture. You can add additional flavor to the whipped cream by adding sugar, vanilla extract, or a hint of citrus zest. For the fruit, you can use a variety of different options depending on your preferences and what is in season. Some popular fruit options include strawberries, blueberries, raspberries, kiwi, and canned peaches.
Tip #2: Prep the Ingredients Ahead of Time
Another important tip for making angel food trifle recipes is to prep the ingredients ahead of time. This will make the assembly process much easier and faster. You can prepare the angel food cake and whipped cream in advance and store them in the refrigerator until you are ready to assemble the trifle. When it comes to the fruit, you can wash and chop it ahead of time and store it in airtight containers in the refrigerator. This will save you time when it comes to assembling the trifle, as you won't need to spend extra time washing and cutting fruit.
Tip #3: Layer the Trifle Properly
One of the key elements of a beautiful and delicious angel food trifle is layering it properly. To do this, you will want to start by cutting the angel food cake into small cubes. You can then add a layer of cake to the bottom of the trifle dish, followed by a layer of whipped cream and a layer of fruit. Repeat these layers until you reach the top of the dish. When it comes to adding the fruit, you can either mix it with the whipped cream or layer it separately. If you mix it with the whipped cream, be sure to gently fold it in to avoid breaking up the fruit.
Tip #4: Decorate the Trifle
Once you have layered the trifle, it is time to decorate it. A simple and elegant option is to top the trifle with additional whipped cream and fresh fruit. You can also use a piping bag to create decorative patterns with the whipped cream. Another option is to sprinkle the top of the trifle with nuts or chocolate shavings. This will add a crunch and depth of flavor to the dessert. You can also drizzle the trifle with caramel or chocolate sauce for an extra touch of indulgence.
Tip #5: Chill the Trifle Before Serving
Finally, it is important to chill the trifle before serving. This will allow the flavors to meld together and the cake to absorb some of the liquid from the whipped cream and fruit. You can chill the trifle in the refrigerator for several hours or overnight.
