AMISH HAM SALAD

Amish Ham Salad image

When it comes to ham salad this is top of the list for me....I love this version and ever since I tried some at a local Amish store I had to learn how to make it. It is a simple recipe and can be seasoned up if you want. I have altered a recipe I found in an Amish newspaper and my main addition is the horsey sauce, which I love....

This savory spread is made with cooked ham, cream cheese, and some other ingredients, making it a great option for a quick and tasty meal. If you are planning to make this recipe, here are some valuable tips that you might find useful:

Tip 1: Use high-quality ham

The ham is the star ingredient of the Amish Ham Spread, and using a high-quality ham can make a big difference in the taste and texture of the spread. Look for a ham that is well-marbled and has a good flavor. Some great options include black forest ham, honey ham, or smoked ham.

Tip 2: Allow the cream cheese to soften

One of the key ingredients in this recipe is cream cheese, and it is important to allow it to soften before you begin to work with it. Soft cream cheese is easier to mix and will spread more evenly throughout the spread. Leave the cream cheese at room temperature for at least 30 minutes before making the spread.

Tip 3: Use a food processor or blender to chop the ham

Chopping the ham by hand can be a tedious and time-consuming process. Using a food processor or blender to chop the ham will make the process much faster and easier. Simply pulse the ham until it is finely chopped, but not pureed.

Tip 4: Adjust the ingredients to suit your taste

The Amish Ham Spread is a highly customizable recipe, and you can adjust the ingredients to suit your taste preferences. If you prefer a spicier spread, you can add some hot sauce or chili flakes. If you like a sweeter spread, you can add some honey or brown sugar.

Tip 5: Experiment with different herbs and spices

Herbs and spices can add depth and complexity to the Amish Ham Spread. Experiment with different flavor profiles, such as rosemary, thyme, paprika, or cumin. Just be sure to balance the flavors so that they complement each other, rather than overpowering the other ingredients.

Tip 6: Store the spread properly

The Amish Ham Spread should be stored in the refrigerator to keep it fresh. It will keep for up to a week if stored properly in an airtight container. If you are planning to make a large batch, consider freezing some portions in airtight containers for future use.

Tip 7: Serve the spread at room temperature

The Amish Ham Spread is best served at room temperature, as it will be easier to spread and will have a better flavor. Allow the spread to sit at room temperature for 10-15 minutes before serving.
Conclusion
The Amish Ham Spread is a delicious and easy-to-make recipe that can be customized to suit your taste preferences. By following these valuable tips, you can ensure that your spread is well-balanced, flavorful, and easy to prepare.
