ALREADY FOR MEATLOAF PINWHEEL

Already for Meatloaf Pinwheel image

As a single working mother of three growing boys, I was always looking for good "make ahead" recipes.. I found this one and it was a winner. A lot of times, I would make it the night before and call the boys to "slice and bake" so it would be ready when I got home..The recipe calls for CheezWhiz for the cheese spread. Recipe prep time does not include rice preparation or chill time.(you can use leftover rice)

EASY OLD FASHIONED MEATLOAF

Easy Old Fashioned Meatloaf image

No fancy ingredients here... Not like we need another meatloaf recipe, but I figured I'd should post my Grandma's for people like me who like a quick easy meatloaf without a lot of fuss. Most of the meatloaves I saw here had things I'd never even consider putting in a meatloaf! :) At times I will substitute the onion with approx. 1/4 cup dried onion flakes. I also have substituted the garlic with garlic powder. I've never tried making it with horseradish. (I was a notoriously picky eater as a kid so I don't think Grandma put it in when I came to visit either.) I usually don't bother beating the egg... (Boy do I sound lazy! Don't tell Mom! LOL!) I've only recently started putting ketchup on the top before baking, so I don't think it's necessary to keep the meatloaf moist. Mom used to use her own dried bread crumbs, but I use the plain storebought kind. I haven't been adventurous enough to try any flavored bread crumbs... Make sure lean ground beef is used otherwise the meatloaf can get too greasy and/or bubble over the pan while baking. I also recommend checking the center to make sure it's done. On occasion it has taken over an hour to bake.

Valuable Tips for Making Meatloaf Pinwheel Recipes

Meatloaf pinwheels are a delicious and easy dish that can be made in a variety of ways. Here are some valuable tips to ensure your meatloaf pinwheels are a success:
1. Use Ground Meat with Some Fat Content
When making meatloaf pinwheels, it's important to use ground meat with some fat content. This will help keep the meatloaf moist and tender. Ground beef with an 80/20 ratio is a good choice for meatloaf pinwheels.
2. Season the Meatloaf Well
Meatloaf pinwheels can be bland if not seasoned properly. Be sure to season the meatloaf with salt, pepper, garlic, and other herbs and spices of your choice. If using a pre-made meatloaf mix, follow the instructions on the package.
3. Use Thinly Sliced Meat and Cheese
To make the pinwheel effect, it's important to use thinly sliced meat and cheese. This will make it easier to roll the meatloaf into a pinwheel shape. You can use a variety of meats and cheeses, such as ham and Swiss cheese or turkey and cheddar cheese.
4. Add Vegetables to the Meatloaf
Adding vegetables to the meatloaf will not only add flavor and moisture but will also make the dish healthier. Consider adding vegetables like onions, carrots, zucchini, or peppers to your meatloaf mixture.
5. Flatten the Meatloaf Mixture
When assembling the pinwheel, it's important to flatten the meatloaf mixture before adding the cheese and meat. This will make it easier to roll the pinwheel and ensure that the cheese and meat are evenly distributed throughout the meatloaf.
6. Use Toothpicks to Secure the Pinwheel
To keep the pinwheel shape intact during cooking, use toothpicks to secure the meatloaf pinwheel. Insert the toothpicks at equal intervals along the edge of the pinwheel to hold it together.
7. Preheat the Oven
It's important to preheat the oven to the correct temperature before cooking the meatloaf pinwheel. This will ensure that the pinwheel cooks evenly and thoroughly. Follow the recipe instructions for the correct oven temperature and cooking time.
8. Let the Meatloaf Rest
After cooking, let the meatloaf rest for several minutes before slicing. This will allow the juices to redistribute throughout the meat, making it juicier and more flavorful.
9. Serve with a Sauce
Meatloaf pinwheels can be served with a variety of sauces, such as ketchup, barbecue sauce, or a creamy cheese sauce. Choose a sauce that complements the flavors of the meatloaf and adds an extra layer of flavor.
10. Experiment with Flavors
Meatloaf pinwheels are a versatile dish that can be customized to suit your tastes. Experiment with different meats, cheeses, vegetables, and spices to create unique flavor combinations. Don't be afraid to get creative with your meatloaf pinwheels!
