FAT FREE (ALMOST!) BANANA BREAD

Fat Free (Almost!) Banana Bread image

I know, I know, this site certainly doesn't need another banana bread recipe...but this is truly a wonderful, moist, nearly fat-free loaf. There's just the fat in the eggs, and you could probably substitute Egg-Beaters (although I've never tried it). Even my "why do we have to eat healthy" family love it....and they all swear to hate any baked goods made with whole wheat flour!

1 cup mashed bananas
¼ cup water
1 ⅔ cups all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon baking soda
½ teaspoon salt
¼ teaspoon baking powder

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Spray one 9x5x3 inch loaf pan with a non-stick cooking spray.

  • Mix in the flour, baking soda, salt and baking powder just until the mixture is moistened. Be sure to scrape the sides of the bowl to blend all ingredients.
  • Bake at 350 degrees F (175 degree C) for about 60 minutes. Bread is done when the top is firm to the touch and a golden brown color. Time will vary according to loaf size and oven type. When bread is removed from oven, allow it to cool on it's side for 10 minutes, then remove from pan and let cool on a rack. This bread is also excellent if you add mini chocolate chips or small fruit pieces to the mix just before baking.

Banana bread is a popular baked good that is loved by many people. It is moist, delicious, and easy to make. However, traditional banana bread recipes are high in fat and sugar content, making it less than ideal for those who are health conscious. Fortunately, there are almost no fat banana bread recipes available that are tasty and healthy. In this article, we will provide you with valuable tips on how to make almost no fat banana bread recipes.

Tip #1: Use ripe bananas

One of the crucial ingredients in making banana bread is the bananas. Ensure that you use ripe bananas when making your bread. Overly ripe bananas are the best as they are sweeter and will lend a natural sweetness to your bread, which means you do not have to use a lot of sugar. Plus, ripe bananas are easier to mash and will produce a more even texture to your bread. So, do not be tempted to use unripe bananas when making your healthy banana bread.

Tip #2: Opt for olive oil

Choosing the right type of oil can make a significant difference in your almost no fat banana bread recipe. Olive oil is an excellent oil to use in place of traditional butter or vegetable oil. Olive oil is low in saturated fat, has no cholesterol content, and is high in monounsaturated fat, which is healthy for your heart. Additionally, olive oil has a light flavor and aroma, which will not overpower the taste of your banana bread.

Tip #3: Replace sugar with natural sweeteners

Most banana bread recipes call for a lot of sugar, which is not healthy for your body. However, it is possible to make your bread naturally sweet without adding extra sugar. Instead of using refined sugar, opt for natural sweeteners like honey or maple syrup. These natural sweeteners will not only add a delicious flavor to your bread but also provide you with essential nutrients like antioxidants and minerals.

Tip #4: Use whole wheat flour

The type of flour you use in your almost no fat banana bread recipe will affect the texture and taste of your bread significantly. It is best to use whole wheat flour instead of refined flour. Whole wheat flour is high in fiber, minerals, and vitamins, which are essential for overall body health. Additionally, whole wheat flour will produce a healthier, denser, and heartier loaf, which is ideal for your health.

Tip #5: Add nuts and seeds

Adding nuts and seeds to your banana bread not only makes it more delicious but also increases the nutrient content. Nuts like walnuts and almonds are high in healthy fats and protein, while seeds like chia seeds and flaxseeds are high in fiber and omega-3 fatty acids. Adding nuts and seeds to your banana bread will give it an extra crunch and provide you with essential nutrients that are beneficial to your health.

Tip #6: Use non-dairy milk

If you are lactose intolerant or vegan, it is best to use non-dairy milk like almond milk or soy milk instead of regular milk. Non-dairy milk is low in fat, calories, and cholesterol, making it ideal for your health. Additionally, non-dairy milk will provide your bread with a creamy texture and a slightly nutty flavor, which is delicious.

Tip #7: Avoid over-mixing

Over-mixing your banana bread batter can lead to a tough and rubbery texture, which is not pleasant. When making your bread, be sure to mix the ingredients until just combined. Do not mix it too much, or you will end up with a dense and heavy loaf.
Conclusion
Making an almost no fat banana bread recipe is easy with the right tips and tricks. Using ripe bananas, olive oil, natural sweeteners, whole wheat flour, nuts and seeds, non-dairy milk, and avoiding over-mixing are crucial in making your bread delicious and healthy. Follow these tips, and you will end up with a moist, fluffy, and healthy banana bread that you can feel proud to serve to your family and friends.
