ALMOND BUTTER KISS COOKIES

Almond Butter Kiss Cookies image

How to make Almond Butter Kiss Cookies

Provided by @MakeItYours

Number Of Ingredients 13

1/2 cup (1 stick) unsalted butter, at room temperature
1/2 cup almond butter
1/2 cup plus 3 tablespoons granulated sugar, divided
1/2 cup packed light brown sugar
3/4 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 teaspoon cream of tartar
1/4 teaspoon salt
1 large egg, at room temperature
2 tablespoons milk (I used 1%)
1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
1 cup white whole wheat flour
1 cup all-purpose flour
about 40 Hershey's Kisses, unwrapped

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 350 F. Line two baking sheets with parchment paper.
  • In the bowl of a stand mixer fitted with the paddle attachment, beat the butter and almond butter on medium speed for about 30 seconds, or until well combined. Add 1/2 cup of the granulated sugar, the brown sugar, baking soda, cream of tartar, and salt, and continue beating on medium speed until the mixture is light and fluffy, stopping to scrape the sides of the bowl as necessary. Mix in the egg, milk, and vanilla until incorporated. With the mixer on low, gradually add both flours, beating just until combined.
  • Add the remaining 3 tablespoons of granulated sugar to a wide, shallow dish. Using a small cookie scoop (mine measures about 1 1/2 inches in diameter), portion the dough into balls. Working with a few at a time, roll the balls in the sugar, coating them on all sides. Place on the prepared baking sheets, leaving 1-2 inches of space between them.
  • Bake the cookies for about 9 minutes, or until they are puffed and the tops are cracked - the edges should be set, though the centers may look underdone. Transfer the baking sheet to a wire rack and immediately press a Hershey's Kiss into the center of each cookie. Allow the cookies to cool for a few minutes on the baking sheet, then remove to the wire rack to cool completely. Repeat with remaining dough and Hershey's Kisses.
  • Makes about 40 cookies

Almond kiss cookies are a popular dessert that people love to snack on during various occasions. These cookies are soft, buttery, and filled with the aroma of almond extract. The texture of almond kiss cookies is further enhanced by the Hershey's Kiss candy that is placed on top. In this article, we will discuss everything you need to know about almond kiss cookies recipes.

History

The origin of almond kiss cookies is not recorded accurately, but it is believed that the recipe for these cookies was first discovered in the United States. Almond kiss cookies have been a popular dessert in America for many years, and their popularity has spread worldwide. They are typically served during weddings, Valentine's Day, and Christmas events.

Ingredients

The ingredients for making almond kiss cookies include butter, sugar, egg, almond extract, flour, baking powder, salt, and Hershey's Kiss candy. The butter and sugar are creamed together until they form a light and fluffy mixture. Then, the other ingredients, apart from the Hershey's Kiss candy, are added and mixed together until they form a dough. The dough is then rolled into small balls and baked onto a cookie sheet. Finally, a Hershey's Kiss candy is placed on top of each cookie while it's still warm.

Preparation

To prepare almond kiss cookies, first, preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C) and prepare a cookie sheet by lining it with parchment paper. In a large mixing bowl, cream together the butter and sugar until the mixture is light and fluffy. Then, add in one egg and mix until it combines well with the butter-sugar mixture. Add in a teaspoon of almond extract, followed by the flour, baking powder, and salt. Mix well to form a dough. Roll the dough into small balls, about the size of a walnut, and place them on the prepared cookie sheet. Bake the cookies for 10-12 minutes, or until the edges turn golden brown. Remove the cookies from the oven and allow them to cool for about 5 minutes. While still warm, press a Hershey's Kiss candy onto the center of each cookie, so that it sticks.

Variations

There are several variations of almond kiss cookies that you can make. One variation is to use different types of Hershey's Kiss candy, such as caramel, dark chocolate, or white chocolate, instead of the traditional milk chocolate Kiss. You can also add chopped nuts, such as almonds or pecans, to the dough to give the cookies an extra crunch. Another variation is to flavor the cookies with different extracts. For example, instead of almond extract, you can use lemon or orange extract to give the cookies a citrusy flavor. You can also add spices, such as cinnamon or nutmeg, to the dough to give the cookies a warm, spicy flavor.

Tips and tricks

To make perfect almond kiss cookies, use softened butter, not melted butter. Softened butter should be at room temperature and still slightly firm to the touch. If the butter is too soft or melted, the cookies will not hold their shape, and they will spread too much while baking. Also, use fresh, good quality Hershey's Kiss candy for best results. Another tip is to refrigerate the dough before shaping it into balls. Chilling the dough will help it to solidify and prevent it from spreading too much while baking. Additionally, when placing the Hershey's Kiss candy on top of the cookies, press it down gently, so that it adheres to the cookie but doesn't flatten it.

Conclusion

Almond kiss cookies are a delicious dessert that is easy to make and perfect for any occasion. They are a treat for the senses, with their buttery texture, almond aroma, and sweet Hershey's Kiss topping. This article has discussed everything you need to know about almond kiss cookies recipes, from their history, ingredients, and preparation to variations, tips, and tricks. Try making these cookies today and enjoy their sweet, nutty flavor!
Almond kiss cookies are delicious treats that are perfect for any occasion. They are easy to make and offer a unique twist to the traditional cookie recipe by incorporating almonds into the mix. In this article, we will provide valuable tips for making almond kiss cookies that will ensure they are a hit with everyone who tries them.

Tip 1: Use High-Quality Almonds

One of the most important ingredients in almond kiss cookies is almonds, so it is essential to use high-quality ones. Almonds that are fresh and properly roasted provide a rich, nutty flavor that is perfect for this recipe. You can choose to use whole or sliced almonds, depending on your preference. When selecting almonds, opt for those that are uniform in size, as this will make them easier to incorporate into the cookie dough.

Tip 2: Properly Prepare the Dough

The dough for almond kiss cookies is relatively simple to make, but it is crucial to follow the recipe carefully to ensure that the cookies come out perfectly. The dough should be soft but not sticky, and it is important not to overmix it, as this can make the cookies tough. Make sure to refrigerate the dough for at least 30 minutes before shaping and baking the cookies, as this will help them keep their shape and prevent spreading.
Tip 2.1: Chill the Dough
After mixing the dough, it's important to chill it in the refrigerator before forming the cookies. This step is essential because it helps the dough firm up, makes it easier to handle, and prevents the cookies from spreading too much while baking. You can also chill the dough in the freezer for a shorter amount of time if you are impatient and can't wait.
Tip 2.2: Shape the Cookies Properly
When shaping the cookies, it is important to form them into balls that are roughly the same size for consistent baking. The dough may be sticky, but you can lightly dust your hands with flour to make it easier to handle. Make a small indentation in the center of each cookie ball with your thumb where you will place an almond later.

Tip 3: Choose the Right Chocolate Kisses

The hallmark of almond kiss cookies is the chocolate kisses in the center. It is best to choose high-quality chocolate kisses that are fresh and have a good balance of milk chocolate and creaminess. The size of the chocolate kiss should also be considered, as it should fit nicely in the indentation made in the cookie dough. Hershey's Kisses are a popular choice but feel free to use your favorite chocolate brand.

Tip 4: Time the Baking Correctly

Almond kiss cookies should be baked until they are lightly golden brown around the edges. Overbaking the cookies can make them dry and brittle, while underbaking can result in a soft and mushy texture. The baking time can vary depending on factors like the oven temperature, cookie size, and altitude. Check the cookies frequently to ensure they are baking evenly and adjust the baking time accordingly.
Tip 4.1: Use a Silpat Mat or Parchment Paper
For more even baking and to prevent the cookies from sticking to the baking sheet, use a silpat mat or parchment paper on the baking tray. They create a smooth surface that allows the cookies to bake evenly and avoids burning on the bottom. The mat or paper also makes it easy to remove the cookies from the baking tray without them breaking apart.

Tip 5: Store Almond Kiss Cookies Correctly

Once the cookies have cooled, it is important to store them properly to maintain their texture and flavor. Almond kiss cookies can be stored in an airtight container at room temperature for up to a week. To keep them fresh for longer, you can place them in the refrigerator or freezer. Make sure to separate the cookies with wax paper or parchment paper to prevent them from sticking together.
Tip 5.1: How to Freeze Almond Kiss Cookies
If you want to freeze almond kiss cookies, allow them to cool completely, then place them in a single layer in an airtight container or freezer bag. Almond kiss cookies can be frozen for up to three months, and they will still taste fresh and delicious when thawed.
Tip 5.2: Bring Cookies to Room Temperature before Serving
When you are ready to serve your almond kiss cookies, remove them from the refrigerator or freezer and allow them to come to room temperature before serving. This will help to restore their texture and flavor, making them taste just as delicious as the day you baked them.

Conclusion

Almond kiss cookies are a fun and unique twist on traditional cookies. With the tips mentioned in this article, you can easily make a batch of delicious almond kiss cookies. By choosing high-quality ingredients, properly preparing the dough, using the right chocolate kisses, timing the baking correctly, and storing them properly, you can ensure that your almond kiss cookies come out perfect every time.
