1 tsp garlic granules (optional)
4 salmon fillets (we used 4 x 130g fillets), skin on or removed
½ tbsp olive oil

Cooking salmon is an excellent way to eat a healthy meal packed with Omega-3 fatty acids. Air fryer salmon for one is a quick and easy way to cook salmon, which is flavorful and delicious. But for those who are new to this method of cooking, there are some essential tips to keep in mind to ensure that the salmon is cooked properly and tastes great. In this article, we will provide you with some valuable tips to help you cook the perfect air fryer salmon for one.

Choose The Right Salmon

The quality of the salmon will have a significant impact on how your final dish turns out. When it comes to buying salmon for air frying, it is essential to choose fresh salmon of good quality. You can look for wild-caught salmon, which is a better option than farmed salmon, as it is healthier and has a naturally better taste. Choose a salmon fillet that is around six to eight ounces in weight, which is perfect for cooking in an air fryer.

Season The Salmon

Salmon is relatively bland on its own, so seasoning it properly is essential to enhance the flavor. There are numerous ways to season salmon, but you can keep it simple by adding salt, pepper, and lemon juice to your salmon fillet. This will provide it with a zesty citrus flavor while enhancing the salmon's natural flavors. You can also experiment with seasoning and add any herbs or spices you like.

Preheat The Air Fryer

Preheating the air fryer before cooking the salmon is essential as it will ensure that the salmon is cooked evenly. Preheating the air fryer would also decrease the total cooking time needed as the fryer will already be hot. Set your air fryer to 375°F and let it heat up for a few minutes before adding the salmon.

Add Oil To The Air Fryer Basket

Salmon has a naturally oily texture, so it is unnecessary to use too much oil. Still, it would be best to add a small amount of oil or non-stick cooking spray to the air fryer basket to prevent the salmon from sticking to the basket. Adding oil will also help in crisping up the skin and add flavor to your salmon.

Place The Salmon Skin-Side Down In The Air Fryer

When placing the salmon in the air fryer, always put the skin-side down. The skin will protect the salmon from drying out and becoming overcooked while also providing some additional flavor and texture to the salmon. Additionally, cooking salmon skin-side down will allow the salmon to cook evenly.

Cook The Salmon According To Thickness

The cooking time will depend on the thickness of your salmon fillet. A six to eight-ounce salmon fillet will require around eight to ten minutes in the air fryer. However, it is important to check the salmon's internal temperature before serving it. The internal temperature of cooked salmon should reach 145°F. If you are unsure, then use a meat thermometer to check the temperature.

Do Not Overcrowd The Air Fryer

Avoid overloading the air fryer and cook only one salmon fillet at a time. Overcrowding the air fryer will cause the salmon to cook unevenly, and the skin may not crisp up as well.

Let The Cooked Salmon Rest

After taking the salmon out of the air fryer, let it rest for a few minutes before serving it. Resting the salmon will allow the juices to redistribute within the salmon, creating a more flavorful and juicy final result.

Clean The Air Fryer

Cleaning the air fryer is essential to maintain its optimal performance and longevity. After using your air fryer, remove the basket and clean it thoroughly with hot, soapy water. Make sure to remove any residue or food particles that are left behind. It is also essential to clean the heating element and interior of the air fryer to remove any remaining food particles or grease.
Conclusion
Air fryer salmon for one is a great way to cook a healthy and delicious meal in a quick and convenient way. Cooking salmon in an air fryer requires only a few ingredients and simple steps, but some essential tips will ensure your salmon is flavorful and cooked to perfection. By following the tips mentioned above, you can enjoy a tasty and healthy salmon fillet in minutes, without any fuss or complicated cooking techniques.
