Time 1h

Yield 3

Number Of Ingredients 12

2 (3 ounce) packages instant ramen noodles, flavor packet discarded
2 large eggs
salt and ground black pepper to taste
¾ pound lean ground beef
1 tablespoon soy sauce
1 teaspoon sesame oil
3 tablespoons vegetable oil, divided
3 slices American cheese
¼ cup ketchup
2 tablespoons chile-garlic sauce (such as Sriracha)
1 ½ cups arugula
3 large eggs

Steps:

  • Bring a pot of water to a boil; add ramen noodles. Boil, stirring occasionally, until noodles are tender, about 3 minutes. Drain. Allow noodles to cool slightly.
  • Beat 2 eggs in a bowl; season with salt and pepper. Stir noodles into eggs until evenly coated. Divide noodles into 6 burger-size ramekins or bowls. Place a sheet of plastic wrap directly over noodles and stack another bowl on top to flatten noodles. Refrigerate until firm, about 20 minutes.
  • Mix beef, soy sauce, and sesame oil in a bowl. Divide beef mixture into three equal portions and shape into patties.
  • Heat about 1 tablespoon vegetable oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Invert each ramen bowl, gently tapping the bottom of the bowl until ramen loosens, careful to maintain bun shape.
  • Fry each ramen bun, without moving noodles, in hot oil until golden brown, about 3 minutes. Flip each bun and continue frying until crisp, 3 to 5 minutes more. Ramen bun should be crispy on one side and slightly softer on the other. Transfer buns to large plate with the crispy side up.
  • Heat about 1 tablespoon vegetable oil in the same skillet used to fry ramen over medium heat. Cook beef patties until burgers are lightly pink in the center, 3 to 5 minute per side. An instant-read thermometer inserted into the center should read 140 degrees F (60 degrees C). Arrange a slice of American cheese over each burger and continue to cook until melted, about 1 minute more.
  • Mix ketchup and chile-garlic sauce in a small bowl; spread mixture over the crispy side of each ramen bun. Divide arugula over 3 ramen buns. Place burgers over arugula.
  • Heat about 1 teaspoon oil in a small skillet over medium-high heat; fry remaining eggs one at a time, adding more oil as needed, until yolk is almost firm, about 1 minutes per side. Place egg over patty and top with remaining bun.

One of the trending examples of this is the air fryer ramen bun burger, a versatile and delectable dish that offers a unique twist to traditional burger buns. These recipes typically involve using ramen noodles as a substitute for the usual hamburger buns, resulting in a more flavorful, fun, and healthy alternative to the classic burger.

The concept of air frying

Before we delve into the specifics of the air fryer ramen bun burger, let us first understand the technology that enables this recipe to exist - the air fryer. Air Fryers use rapid air technology to cook food by circulating hot air around the ingredients efficiently. It is essentially a mini convection oven with a fan that blows hot air around the food, which browns and crisps the surface, creating a crispy and delicious texture. The concept behind air frying has gained substantial popularity over the years due to its ability to cook food with a fraction of the oil required in traditional deep-frying methods, making it not only a healthier option but also a more economical and eco-friendly choice.

The ingredients

The beauty of air fryer ramen bun burger recipes is that they offer a versatile and customizable base that allows a wide range of flavors and ingredients to be experimented with. The basic ingredients required for the recipe include:
Ramen noodles:
The main ingredient is instant ramen noodles, which are prepared according to the instructions on the package. Using ramen noodles as a bun substitute provides a unique and fun twist to the traditional burger recipe.
Ground beef or meat substitute:
This forms the patty for the burger, which can be seasoned and flavored with spices, herbs, or sauces to suit personal preferences. Alternatively, a vegetarian or vegan option can be used, such as tofu, Beyond Meat, or mushroom patties.
Vegetables and condiments:
Air fryer ramen bun burgers can be garnished and flavored with various vegetables, such as lettuce, tomato, onion, pickles, and cheese, as well as condiments like ketchup, mustard, mayonnaise, or hot sauce.
Oil:
Air fryers require minimal to no oil to cook food, making them a healthier alternative to deep frying. However, a small amount of oil can be added to the ingredients for flavor and texture.

The recipe

The air fryer ramen bun burger for one recipe is a quick and simple process that takes less than 30 minutes to cook. Here are the basic steps involved in creating the dish:
Step 1:
Start by cooking the instant ramen noodles according to the package instructions. Once cooked, drain and let them cool to room temperature.
Step 2:
Next, season the ground beef with salt, pepper, or any other preferred spices or sauces. Mix well and shape into a patty that is slightly larger than the size of the ramen noodles. Alternatively, use a pre-made vegetarian or vegan patty.
Step 3:
Heat the air fryer to 375°F (190°C). Place the beef patty in the air fryer basket and cook for 8-10 minutes, flipping halfway through until they are cooked to the desired level of doneness. Meanwhile, prepare the vegetables and condiments.
Step 4:
Once the beef patty is cooked, remove it from the air fryer basket and set aside. Carefully place the cooked ramen noodle burgers into the air fryer basket, one at a time. Cook for 2-3 minutes until they become crispy and golden brown. Make sure not to overcrowd the basket.
Step 5:
Once the ramen noodle buns are cooked, it’s now time to assemble the burger. Place the cooked beef patty on the bottom ramen noodle bun, followed by the vegetables and condiments of your choice. Top with the second ramen noodle bun. Repeat this process for additional burgers as needed.

The use of air fryer technology in cooking the air fryer ramen bun burger allows for a healthier alternative to deep-fried foods. Why Make an Air Fryer Ramen Bun Burger?

Ramen bun burgers provide a unique twist on the traditional burger. The ramen noodle bun is a great alternative to regular wheat buns as it offers a different taste and texture. The burger patty can be cooked in various ways to suit your preference, and the toppings can be customized to your liking. Additionally, air fryer ramen bun burgers are a healthier version of the traditional burger as they are lower in fat due to the air frying method.

Tips for Making the Perfect Air Fryer Ramen Bun Burger

1. Choose the right ramen noodles: When making a ramen noodle bun, it is essential to choose the right type of ramen noodles. Ramen noodles can come precooked or raw, which can make a significant difference in the final result. Raw ramen noodles may take longer to cook, whereas precooked noodles will not require as much time in the air fryer. Consider choosing ramen noodles that are low in sodium to make a healthier recipe. 2. Cook the ramen noodles correctly: To create ramen noodle buns, you must cook the ramen noodles correctly. Boil the noodles for a few minutes and rinse them in cold water to stop the cooking process. Drain the noodles and mix them with an egg to bind them together. Divide the mixture into equal portions and shape each portion into a patty. Refrigerate for at least 30 minutes to help the bun hold its shape. 3. Season the burger patty well: To create a delicious burger patty, it is essential to season it well. Salt and pepper are ideal for simple seasoning, but you can add other spices and herbs to the mix for a more unique flavor. Some popular spices for burger patties include garlic powder, onion powder, chili powder, and paprika. 4. Preheat the air fryer: Preheat the air fryer before adding the ramen noodle buns and burger patties. Preheating the air fryer ensures that the food cooks evenly and prevents any burning. The recommended temperature for cooking air fryer ramen bun burgers is 375 degrees Fahrenheit. 5. Cook in batches: To ensure that the burger patties and buns cook evenly, cook them in batches. Overcrowding the air fryer can create uneven cooking and cause the food to stick together. Cook the buns and patties separately, dedicating one batch to the buns and one to the burger patties. 6. Flip the burger halfway through cooking: To ensure that the burger cooks evenly, flip it over halfway through cooking. This allows both sides of the burger to cook evenly, resulting in a juicy and tender patty. 7. Add your favorite toppings: What makes air fryer ramen bun burgers unique is the variety of toppings that can be added. Add your favorite toppings such as lettuce, tomato, cheese, onions, and condiments for a customized taste. Experiment with different combinations to find the perfect mix.

Conclusion

Air fryer ramen bun burgers are a delicious and healthier alternative to traditional burgers. With the right tips, you can create the perfect air fryer ramen bun burger at home. Remember to choose the right ramen noodle, cook the noodles correctly, season the burger patty well, preheat the air fryer, cook in batches, flip the burger halfway through cooking, and add your favorite toppings.
