Time 8h30m

Number Of Ingredients 3

16 ounces Hominy (- or large white corn kernels)
2 ½ tbsp Olive Oil
2 tsp Seasonings

Steps:

  • Prepare your corn (hominy) as described above by soaking them in water overnight. Then allow the corn to dry out on paper towels or a kitchen towel for about a half hour, padding them down as needed.
  • Preheat your air fryer to 400. I like to give my basket a quick spray with nonstick as well.
  • In a large bowl, whisk or use a fork to mix together your seasoning and the oil. Then transfer the kernels to the bowl, tossing them in the oil and seasonings. Use a large spoon to transfer spoonfuls of the kernels to the air fryer basket and then spread them evenly into a flat layer in the basket.
  • Bake the kernels for ten minutes. Shake the basket and continue to bake for another 10-12 minutes or until done. Tip: shake a third time if needed to prevent burning. While your kernels are baking, you can line a baking sheet with a couple of layers of paper towels or clean lint-free kitchen towel. When the kernels are done baking, transfer them to the towels and allow them to cool.

Corn nuts are a popular snack that has been enjoyed for generations. It is also known as “chulpe” in South America and “cancha” in Peru. Traditionally, corn nuts were made by roasting dried corn kernels. However, with the invention of air fryers, corn nuts can be made in a healthier way using less oil but still retain their crunchy texture and delicious flavor.

What is an air fryer?

An air fryer is a kitchen appliance that uses hot air to cook food. It is a healthier alternative to deep-frying as it requires minimal oil while still giving food a crispy texture as if it has been deep-fried. It is a convenient way of preparing snack foods such as corn nuts without the added fat.

Benefits of using an air fryer to make corn nuts

Making corn nuts in an air fryer has several benefits. Firstly, it is a healthier method of cooking that uses less oil. Secondly, it is faster than roasting corn kernels in an oven. Lastly, using an air fryer allows the seasonings to stick to the corn kernels better, resulting in a more flavorful snack.

Ingredients for air fryer corn nuts

The ingredients needed to make air fryer corn nuts include:

  • 1 cup dried corn kernels
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon chili powder or any seasoning of choice

  4. Place the seasoned corn kernels in the air fryer basket and cook for 10-12 minutes, shaking the basket every 3-4 minutes to ensure even cooking.
  5. Once the corn kernels are golden brown and crispy, remove them from the air fryer and allow them to cool for a few minutes.

Air fryer corn nuts recipes are a great way to enjoy the crunchy texture of corn nuts without the unhealthy oils and fats typically used in traditional recipes. These snacks can be made quickly and easily in an air fryer and can be seasoned to your taste. In this article, we will provide valuable tips on how to make the perfect air fryer corn nuts.

1. Choose the right corn kernels

When making air fryer corn nuts, it is important to choose the right type of corn kernels. Use corn kernels that are plump and have a yellow or white color. Avoid using popcorn kernels, as they are not suitable for making corn nuts.

2. Preheat the air fryer

Preheating the air fryer is an essential step to ensuring that the corn nuts are cooked evenly. Set the air fryer to the recommended temperature and allow it to preheat for 5 minutes before adding the corn kernels.

3. Use a single layer of corn kernels

When adding the corn kernels to the air fryer, it is important to use a single layer. This helps to ensure that the corn nuts cook evenly and do not stick together. If you stack the kernels, they may not cook properly, and you will end up with some undercooked and some overcooked kernels.

4. Shake the air fryer basket regularly

Shake the air fryer basket regularly to ensure that the corn kernels are cooking evenly. This is especially important if you are using a small air fryer or cooking a large batch of corn nuts.

5. Add seasoning after cooking

It is best to add seasoning to the corn nuts after they are cooked. This helps to ensure that the seasoning does not burn or become too overpowering. You can use a variety of seasonings, such as salt, pepper, garlic powder, chili powder, or any other seasoning of your choice.

6. Let the corn nuts cool before serving

Allow the corn nuts to cool for a few minutes before serving. This helps to ensure that they are crunchy and fully cooked. If you serve the corn nuts immediately after cooking, they may still be too hot and soft.

7. Store the corn nuts in an airtight container

Store the corn nuts in an airtight container to keep them fresh and crunchy. You can also store them in the refrigerator or freezer for a longer shelf life.

8. Experiment with different flavors

One of the great things about making air fryer corn nuts is that you can experiment with different flavors. You can add a variety of seasonings or try different types of corn kernels to create your own unique recipe.

Conclusion

Air fryer corn nuts are a great snack to enjoy while watching a movie, hosting a party, or just as a quick snack. By following the tips provided in this article, you can ensure that your corn nuts turn out perfectly every time. Remember to experiment with different flavors and enjoy your new favorite snack!
