Wheat Germ Crunch Cake image

old newspaper clipping has caramel sauce with it this is very good cake not overly sweet unless using caramel

Number Of Ingredients 20

1/4 cup butter
1/4 cup sugar
1 cup corn flakes, crushed
1/4 cup wheat germ
1/2 cup pecans, chopped
2 cups flour
1/4 cup wheat germ
1 teaspoon baking powder
1 1/2 teaspoons salt
1 1/4 cups sugar
3/4 cup butter
1 teaspoon lemon zest
1 teaspoon vanilla
3 eggs
1/2 cup milk
1 1/2 cups brown sugar
2 tablespoons cornstarch
1 cup water
1 dash salt
4 tablespoons butter

Steps:

  • mix topping until crumbly( i made in food processor).
  • press into bottom of tube pan.( i would butter or pam it next time ,kinda sticks).
  • cream sugar and butter.
  • add eggs and lemon zest.
  • add dry ingredients.
  • mix.
  • spoon mixture on top of crumbs.
  • bake 300 degrees 60 to 70 minutes.
  • cool 15 minutes before flipping.
  • caramel.
  • cook everything but butter.
  • stirring constantly til thick and clear add butter stir.
  • serve over cake.
