I love making (and eating) Mexican food, but I don't like the additives, sodium, and questionable freshness of the store bought taco seasoning pouches. I knew I probably had all the ingredients to make my own, so after a little research, I came up with this no-salt, scaled-up recipe. This recipe makes enough seasoning for 10...

2/3 c chili powder
5 Tbsp cumin
2 1/2 Tbsp garlic powder
2 1/2 Tbsp crushed red pepper
2 1/2 Tbsp onion powder
2 1/2 Tbsp oregano
5 tsp paprika
5 tsp black pepper
5 tsp white pepper

Steps:

  • 1. Combine all ingredients in an airtight bag or bowl. shake to combine. Store in an airtight container.
  • 2. To make taco meat, brown one pound of ground beef (or any meat), add 1/4 cup of water and 2 tablespoons + 1 teaspoon of seasoning. Add salt, or not, to taste. Starting with 1/2 teaspoon and adding from there. Simmer 5 more minutes or until liquid level and meat "doneness" are satisfactory.
